Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but every missed metric or issue on ebay does not result in a defect. Ebay defines true defects very specifically and it is confusing when people call a late shipment a defect, every return a defect, no tracking uploaded a defect and on and on.
Unless things have changed, there are two things only that will result in a defect on a seller's record:
--out of stock cancellation
--unresolved by seller case
Other things may count against sellers, but they are not defects.

It may not cause a "defect" but it's still a 'ding' to your account.
And too many "dings" can cause lousy service metrics and a further penalty fee

I understand, and agree with that, but my point is everything is not a defect as defined by ebay.
If I were a new seller trying to understand the rules, and read that just a couple or three defects can gravely effect my selling ability, I need to know that uploading tracking late will not be one of those defects. When everything is lumped under the term defects it becomes confusing and difficult to understand the rules.

The people that do it are probably the same constant never ending flow of people posting on here confusing the words buyer and seller. I mean how hard is it to get that one right...buyers buy and sellers sell, so posters calling everything a defect is just par for the course I guess.

Because both of those cancellations are associated with a defect.
Both lead to "Transaction Defect Rate" which is could have the point made that it's the worst of all the defects to get.
People might be wording it in a way that it's not pointing out the exact defect, but if they're talking about a "out of stock defect", it's clear that we can know they're talking about Transaction Defect Rate.

But some members will refer to OTHER situations as being a "defect," such as late shipping.

I also notice abbreviations being thrown around here: BM, GTC, SNAD, PP, PM, TOS, SOB.
I'm a long time seller and i get confused. I can imagine how confusing that can be for a newbie.

SOB is pretty clear.

In my opinion, there are many posters who have never read a policy, any policy, or even know how or where to find them. They rely on what they read from other posters who relied on what they read here, and on and on. They assume what they read is right and that they are interpreting the information correctly.
Verifying information is a lost art.

Good catch! I threw that one in on my own. 😃
