Why do so many people not read and then make 1,000 threads about the same thing?

Literally half the threads on here are people complaining about the seller hub and managed payments like it was something brand new and foisted upon sellers.

They completely ignore the already 100+ threads and have to make a new one for no reason.

Seller hub was announced in the eBay Fall update of...2015, over FIVE YEARS AGO. I have not used the previous iteration in over 3 years.

https://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/fallupdate2015/ebay-seller-hub.html

Managed payments was announced around November of 2018, nearly three years ago. Notifications get sent to sellers giving them ample time to register and switch over.

I'm surprised to STILL see threads on "shipping final value fees", FVF's on shipping were added in....2011.

Gotta agree with you.

It seems like this is the 1000th thread I've seen from someone complaining that people are not reading and then creating 1000 new threads about the same thing.

Very frustrating.

@quadcitypickers

You said, "I don't get how folks can think everything is going to remain the same forever"

Think about that. So true.

I'm twice your age, but without a past, how can you have a future? Think, just think... Love you!

Re: Why do so many people not read and then make 1,000 threads about the same thing?

Great post.  I'm pushing 80 and agree with every word you wrote.   And, "I don't want to be stuck in a nursing home trying to figure out how to turn on auto-wipe on my WiFi-connected toilet"  absolutely cracked me up.

I will add this, though:

I'm sometimes surprised by young people who can't do simple computing tasks.  Then I remember they all have smart-phones and tablets and the like.   All they know how to do is touch an icon.  They are passive.  They are not what I I would call computer users.  I  left-click, right-click, pull down menus, look for navigation tools, and in all sorts of other ways explore to see what I can do, or to see how to do what I've decided I want to do.  When I learned to use these infernal computin' machines, I had to be curious and active, had to understand the machinery to some extent, had even to program it;  in short, I had to engage my brain.  Now, people have only to touch a little picture and engage their emotions.

Re: Why do so many people not read and then make 1,000 threads about the same thing?

Have to admit I don't understand "venting"........or what good it does.......  The "Ebay hates me" and all the permutations of that is just ridiculous to me.  I, and some of my generation,  was taught not to cry about something, but rather to try to solve the basic problem and that's what the previous Stores Board used to be so good at.......helping people improve their listings, finding workarounds, explaining how things worked etc.  Certainly, there were/always will be posts about low sales, unfairness, etc., but alot of that was on the Selling Board which was a real Wild West that I avoided like the plague.   Today it seems to me that most of the "vents" are uninterested in solving whatever the problem is......short of "doing it my way".  What efforts are made to help people understand other options that might work are overwhelmed by the "vents".

That said (venting)........I don't know how you fix the problem, short of trying to establish a place for venting and one for problem solving.  And there are boards that have less venting.....and I guess to solve my own dissatisfaction with this one.....I should find another one to hang out at......

It's just the nature of the beast.  I was recently sitting with friends and I was maundering on about people being unable to roll with the punches, take the rough and tumble of life, and endlessly whining about their lot.   At a certain point, I heard myself and realized I was whining about whiners!   I said as much and we all had a good laugh at my expense.    😄

I dont think people are complaining about the Seller Hub, the people that use it seem to be quite happy with it.

The hundreds of people posting new complaint posts are angered at the changes to the "all Selling" page, which is completely different than the Seller hub.

I see where you're coming from, but I don't think this thread was started to moan about starting threads. I'm pretty sure this thread was started to address the frustration associated with all the threads, of which a disproportionate amount are (recently) related to the exact same 2 or 3 topics.

but I don't think this thread was started to moan about starting threads.

Yes it was.

The Op is moaning about people starting threads for no reason, because there is already tons of threads about the same thing.

But so what?

People can skip threads if they don't want to read them,

and the board isn't going to run out of paper and ink anytime soon...

It is as amusing as the people who complain about what a radio station is discussing but don't change the dial?   Don't like the complaining?  Don't read the comments.   ðŸ˜›  Stay safe everyone.   ðŸ™‚

You cant compare changes to your job to changes implemented on you.

Meaning at a job you are getting paid to do things the way the boss wants.

ebay you are in business for yourself. ebay is a venue like a booth at a flea market. Yet ebay keeps doing changes as if you are an employee.

Same problem as buyers not reading listings and then complaining NAD.

I had proposed to Griff on a weekly chat years ago that ebay institute a mandatory reading comprehension test for all new ebay users.   You can just imagine how well that was received!

Part of the problem is the increase in mobile traffic. People see an item, click add to cart and buy, and THEN only do they read anything.

I've sold things missing a small accessory and put ***READ!*** in the title, and then highlight the fact it does not come with an attachment, that the item works fine without it(example, a shop vac missing the brush attachment but includes all others).

Half the time, I get an email it has sold, and sometimes not 30 seconds later (not kidding) I'll get a cancel request "ooh sorry, didn't see it doesn't come with it".

Like really? Your dopamine level is so low you can't take an extra 500 milliseconds to read the entire title and have to just run through the purchase process full speed ahead?

I mind those a lot less than the ones who say nothing until after they receive it, then try to blame me for sending them the wrong item... Yet reading their "message" in the return clearly indicates they ordered the wrong item (so there's the obvi reason it doesn't "fit").

Re: Why do so many people not read and then make 1,000 threads about the same thing?

This is a design and search flaw of the site. I actually think it can be hard to find previous threads that match  specific questions or see where territory has been covered. Just searched by Managed Payments and got this 10,001 results.

Most threads start Managed Payments so how would I know what's in them. There is no breakdown, or easily accessible one, to show threads on specific subjects. In reality, a good thread should be ongoing for a quite a while. People should be able to drop and see the historical comments and the most recent. I think people start new ones because it's too hard to find what they are looking for.

The label function does not work well nor do the other sort functions.

In fact, it would better to have fewer threads that goo deeper and longer. Older sites still use systems where you can see all the threads by topic, what's most recent, how many posts, etc. in a format that helps you see what might be most relevant. The home page would likely list current active topics not just the most recent post (or have a way to switch back and forth).

eBay is just the most recent comment or new post and less than 10 to the page.

The Boards here a pretty much a disaster from a design and functionality perspective.

Re: Why do so many people not read and then make 1,000 threads about the same thing?

I can think of a few reasons....

They're unfamiliar with the forum

The search option is terrible

They just want to vent

Timing....current vs an old discussion

WARNING: The following is meant in good humor.

There's also another thread on the board about the multiple posts complaining about the HUB and Managed Payments so feel free to add whatever reason for this duplication to the list...just sayin' ðŸ˜‰

Re: Why do so many people not read and then make 1,000 threads about the same thing?

Thank you!

I personally get tired of people patting themselves on the back because they are such trendsetters & are enjoying whatever it is.

For me the seller Hub Does NOT work.

The scrolling from side to side just doesn't show me what I need.

I have one device.

My drafts are lost.

I would gladly show this to anyone.

Took screenshots & send them to CS. They were entirely clueless.

They said just use my phone for everything.

One thing I have learned reading these boards is that so many see their situation as everyone's.

We are dealing with so many different scenarios.

Personally, I do not enjoy most computer things. This is not a character flaw.

I got an 18 year old to sit down with me & try to use the seller Hub.

After about 1/2 hour, he said "this just doesn't work"

He was finished.

And why do people start threads? I have talked to long time sellers who don't even know there is a community.  Many don't know how it works.

I get on trying to keep up with whatever.

The last few days, I have had issues I have never heard about.

One as a seller, one with mail carrier.

I still might start a new thread!
