Why did eBay absolutely ruin the Sales Event process?

Am I the only one who has absolutely no idea why eBay would ever change the bulk sales event process. It used to be so efficient and quick now I have no idea what's even going on. It's nearly impossible to make a sales event and have confidence in what you just did. They added steps and clicks instead of reduce them which is what most businesses do when they make changes. The drop down menu style is absolutely terrible it was perfect visually before there was no need at all to destroy this process. 

I don't see any option anymore to "exclude items on sale" which is instrumental to how I set up sales events. Does anyone know if that option is still around or did they get rid of it to make this even more painful to try and maneuver. 

Sorry about the venting but this is just frustrating anymore.

Are you talking about the Markdown Manager @fcar98 ?  Or is it something else you are trying to do?  Please be specific so we can try to help you.

The new system for managing sales or discounts for a fixed period of time is exactly the opposite of what worked in the past.

It seeks the seller define a broad swath of inventory, All listings, Ebay categories, Store Categories, etc and then exclude listings.

Clearly designed to see more markdowns rather than select markdowns.

It is easy to hate, and a difficult transition from past practice.

Are you talking about the Markdown Manager?  If you are, I don't see any substantial changes in it except where to find the program.  What is it that you are seeing?  Maybe I missed something.  I'm currently running a sale, so if something has changed, please, I'd like to know.

This is what used to be sales, and is now Discounts (new) under the marketing tab.

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused, they seem to have renamed it and I simply didn't pay any attention to is.  It seems to be called Discount Manager or Sales Event now.

On the upper right side on the link below there is an icon called "Create a Discount"  Then you can select a Sales Event if you want or one of the other options.

I've used it and think it's better because everything is on one page.  Like everything it takes getting used too but in the long run it seems more efficient.  Behind the scenes if there's only one page it's cheaper and that's what drives many business decisions.

It might be better for you with your small number of listings but I have close to 5k listings with some categories with well over a thousand listings.

I did one, and could only exclude 100 items. I wanted to exclude more since I didn't want recent listings to be included, but I had lots and lots of recent listings (about 200) so I wasn't able to exclude everything I wanted to.

It doesn't seem that much different than the previous system- once you get used to it. There always was a 'max' of what could be included in a particular sale. If you want to cherry pick, use the ADD button and go through your listings (which you can then sort by date, category etc.) or just choose a category instead.

Yea they got rid of the Markdown Manager name a long time ago and now just call them Discounts. And lately ebay has been tinkering with those pages after they finished with eBay Messages pages I guess. The “sales event discounts” (I.e. 20% off selected listings) have new interfaces now. But the “order discounts” (I.e. buy 1 get 1 free) still have the previous interface. It’s likely a matter of time when the order discounts pages change too.

What I hate is that over half the time when I make revisions to the discount, eBay pops up an error saying something like something’s wrong at the moment and my revisions didn’t get saved. But then I refresh my Manage Discounts page and see that my changes did in fact get saved. Buggy buggy buggy.

I fully grasp how its supposed to work and its totally inefficient from its previous version. I've been selling for over 20 years and markdown manager is/was a key part of my routine. Before this change, visually, you could see your listings and easily do a bulk sale (include and exclude), they also had an option to "exclude sales items" which is instrumental to how I run sales and that is now gone. Now you must literally go through every single listing ( I get you can organize by category that doesn't really help overall) and exclude the ones you don't want and can only exclude 100. My point was this new process is not efficient and was not necessary. eBay likes to make changes that do not need done then will never fix issues that need fixed like the horrendous search engine, for example on our own listings search if you do not type the exact, and I mean exact, wording it will produce no results. If you're looking for lets say "turtlebeach" and you type "turtle" it brings up no results, thats insane.  eBay makes some great changes and then some that are purely mind boggling (money driven)

They ruin everything for completely no reason.   Sales down, fees up...Buyer is ALWAYS right. Its not even worth selling on here anymore, They killed a once great site. For no reason whatsoever other than they have to justify paying web developers 7 figure salaries.
