Why are sellers not able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers?

One buyer win an item and did not pay, I sent her several messages, but  she did not respond. 7 days later, I canceled the sale.  Later, I went to the buyer's feedback and found that she had more than 10 of  seller's complaints which described her behavior as "never paid, never respond",  however,  the buyer's feedback is still positive.  How come eBay not allow seller to leave negative or neutral feedback?  So, what is the purpose of leaving feedback?

Re: Why are sellers not able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers?

EBay wants to encourage the purchasing of items on ebay, allowing buyers to rate their transaction by leaving feedback. Helps to foster confidence in the safety of buying on eBay.

Sellers are left on their own, and can only leave positive feedback for their buyers. Revenge seller feedback for a bad Buyer is not permitted since this does not encourage purchases.

Sellers who post a false positive for a buyer violate ebay feedback rules.

Did you just cancel the sale or did you open an unpaid item case. These cases do leave a mark on a sellers account that from what I read are starting to have an impact from EBay. Plus after 2 non paying strikes most sellers will have them blocked already.

To avoid most problems in the future with buyers who have not payed more than twice you can block them from bidding or buying.
Click on you user ID in the top left corner.

Go to account settings

Click Site Preferences

Scroll down to Buyer Requirements

On the right side click edit

Set your preferences to what your comfortable with

The only other option is not doing auctions, setting your price and have immediate payment required.

Hope you have better luck going on.

Re: Why are sellers not able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers?

In the distant past when a buyer left negative feedback for a bad seller that seller would then typically leave a neg for the buyer.

EBay then changed it's feedback rules and allows sellers to only leave positive feedback.

What site on the internet allows negative comments about buyers?

That is one of my main gripes too,  sadly ebay favor the buyers not the sellers.  You could still leave neg feedback empasising it in the text but it is still Spanish as positive.  My own advice is to forget it,  I get the occasional time waster i just put it down to life and move on.  Thankfully my experiences of timewasters is few and far between.

They changed that policy a long time ago. No need to leave buyers negative feedback. If they paid you then its always a positive feedback.

If you hit a bad buyer, just think of it as a cost of doing business.

I recently got hit with a buyer that wants me to refund her back the import tax. The total cost was $10, I refunded her back $0.95. She was not happy and left me a negative feedback.

Happy selling

Here in he US leaving negatively worded comments for buyers is against the rules and makes sellers look bad. If those 10 rule breaking sellers had filed and closed their uids then the OP could have automatically blocked the bidder with her bidder blocks.

Re: Why are sellers not able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers?

The issue of feedback has been likened to a BALL game, where the buyers goal has been bricked-up, and (just to be on the safe side?) re-located to a different stadium.

eBay can do so much to us, if (in their eyes) we (as buyer or seller) step out of line, but they can't deal with an ebayer who gives false or malicious feedback? I think not.

Given the amount of time I'm sure CS have been engaged with us, dealing with unfair or out n out lies with regard malicious feedback? I suspect eBay would find it cost effective to deal with the liars...and yet It won't, because it's not considered "good business".

Time and again I've seen some of our fellow forum members direct you, me us to an eBay "link" (some have a "link" for just about every occasion sadly) Well, the link (talk) is cheap, it sounds good, it looks good...in print, but actions speak louder, such as putting policy into practice, and ALL TOO OFTEN these links...these policies?, they fail us.... buyer and seller alike.

How come eBay not allow seller to leave negative or neutral feedback?

Because it would not accomplish what you think it would. If a buyer receives a negative, in a matter of seconds he can create a new account and wipe the slate clean.

So, what is the purpose of leaving feedback?

For buyers, it has no purpose other than the fact that some buyers liker to "collect" it and still think it means something. Like a 1st grade soccer game, there will still be people who think that the "score" is important.

Re: Why are sellers not able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers?

Sellers have not been allowed to leave negative FB for buyers for about 10 years.  That's it.  No amount of griping will change it.  Let's move on.

When a buyer does not pay, a seller should open an unpaid item case, not just cancel.  By cancelling, you have accomplished two goals, neither of them positive for you.  You did not make sure your buyer had an unpaid item strike, thus allowing this person the chance to do the same thing again, and, unless you used the correct reason for cancelling, you earned yourself a defect.

And, all those sellers who thought they were getting away with something? That buyer could have gotten those "negative disguised as a positive" FBs and also earned a defect for those sellers.

Learn how to handle non-paying bidders.  When a buyer has not paid by 48 hours after the end of the auction, open a non-paying buyer case in the Resolution Center.  That case earns the buyer a strike.  Two of those in 12 months means that most smart sellers won't sell to that person.  You need to do some more reading.

Put a search into google.

Name a company where the seller rates the buyer?

Just not good business sense.

Re: Why are sellers not able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers?

Because the person with the most feedback in a transaction becomes the winner in a dispute, by leaving negative feedback and hurting thier market partner whether buyer or seller. By removing it from sellers, ebay made that mess disappear. All other things being equal it improved the market platform.

Ebay needs to be better at protecting sellers, but I am glad that the overall negative mess is gone. Its worth it to me, as a seller, to deal with a few bad buyers and not scare away good ones.
