When does summer slowdown end

So I have seen this discussed by many many people at this point but with no answers that I could find. So obviously summer slowdown is real and affects many different categories so in turn affects different sellers on ebay, but the most known category and the one I focus on mainly is clothing. This is my first year experiencing summer slowdown so I thought it would be more of a fast drop in sales until the dog days of summer and then they would start to rise as we got closer and closer to fall. But its been more of a rollercoaster at this point with some weeks doing decent and others not so good, and this is with a store focused on quick flipping with 10 to 15 new listings every day and I've been running constant sales so my prices are good and enticing for my customers along with 100% feedback. So July 26 is here and my last 4 days have been the worst I've had since I've switched my prices down for quick flipping. Yet the weeks before at the start of July were the best I've ever had in clothing. So the big question is when does summer slowdown in the clothing category really bounce back strong with no doubts of a huge drop in sales like I'm experiencing now.  Is it August? September? October? Any help would be appreciated

Re: When does summer slowdown end

You sold 106 items in May, 127 items in June, and 126 items in July, with several days to go. Where is the slowdown?

Re: When does summer slowdown end

I didn't know others could see my monthly stats, but seeing that I dropped all of my prices on every product I had in late may or around there to keep up with the summer slowdown, may was actually very good if I had the lower prices I would've got 150 at least and that's with the much lower amount of product I had in my store at that time also, my store has grown very much since may so the number of items I have listed and the lower prices I've incorporated should be making me many more sales than I am currently, and that's because of the slowdown sadly, atleast for me personally and what Im selling

Re: When does summer slowdown end

I've been selling pre-owned clothing here for years and can tell you that the summer slow-down is, indeed, real, but it's different for everyone who experiences it (some don't - I've had some brisk summers) depending on what you sell.  I don't have much running here these days and sell on several different sites, but putting everything together this is pretty much bog standard dog days of summer and I'll be finishing out summer season by August - I may shut down for a while then and open up after Labor Day when things start picking up again.

My experience in the secondary market, where I almost exclusively sell, is that it's more 'immediate' - stores may be pushing fall/winter when it's still ridiculously hot outside, but my buyers come to buy sweaters and jackets from me when the weather actually turns.

Re: When does summer slowdown end

I've always heard it's May to July. But with people going outside and less afraid to breathe on each other. It's probably worse than usual. Would also not be surprised if eBay's constant tweaking lately has caused issues.

So, maybe next month. People with kids getting an advance on their tax money in the middle of the month may entice them to spend. But if a ton of people start getting evicted next week, we'll probably start seeing a huge sales slump. But, if a lot of states force us to become shut ins again. May see  a lot of bored spending as well.

Re: When does summer slowdown end

Retail has waves.

Some of those waves are common to all forms of retail some are specific to a category some to a particular store.

I've worked retail, several different categories and the slowest point in the day is 2pm and the slowest day of the week is Tuesday.

When we had a B&M shop, DH handled the high rollers and the rest of the staff did the quotidian stuff, low value product and hobby supplies.

He kept getting upset that we were not making sales, so I started keeping daily, weekly, and monthly totals by shop category.

And showing them to him when he got stressed.

That's why we stopped having Christmas sales. We learned that sales (in our field) led to lower profits and no more sales. We learned that in summer our postcard rack on the sidewalk often made as much money as our usual line indoors.

And that supplies took in as much $5-$30-$50 at a time as sales of our high value goods.

Have you kept a record of your sales over the years?  Look back at how the waves affect you.

The comparison chart eBay puts on our Seller Hub is useless because it only covers the last 30 days --- and changes daily. I've have drops of 300% under the previous 30 days when I have a couple of slow days and jumps just as big.
Comparing July /21 to July/19 (because 2020 was... weird) and to July/18, you should see the beginning of a pattern.
