Ebay has its ups and downs when selling. I find 99% of my business is easy and a good experience.
But dam that 1% that is just a pain in my ebay.
So what I have been doing is leaving feedback when I ship. Kind of a thank you to the buyer for quick pay with quick shipping and good feedback. This has worked for me for years except when there is an issue, then I regret it.
So as a seller do you hold off giving feedback, or give it right away?
Going forward I think I may be leaving feedback after 10 +- days after the item has been received.
Let me now what you think.

I prefer to wait one or days after delivery. I hope the buyer leaves feedback so I am sure he/she is happy with the item. If I don't receive any feedback by then, I send my feedback. Always positive for the buyer.

I don't have a set schedule. Usually leave it the day I ship, sometimes I forget or I wait until there are a few to leave. There have only been a few times in the last 5 years that I regretted leaving it sooner and not waiting until after the transaction was finished.

Since a seller can only leave positive feedback for a buyer, it doesn't really matter when or if it's left, does it?
If the buyer becomes a pain after you've left that glowing feedback, so what? Regardless of whether or not you have left feedback, you still need to respond in the correct manner, right?

I have it set to leave positive feedback right after they pay. Feedback doesn’t really matter but my though is that if they immediately see I left them a feedback just for buying the item, they’re more opt to be easier to deal with in the even theirs an issue. I also leave a coupon code in the feedback in hopes they come back.

I have a process:
- Item gets paid.
- I package the item. I take a few pictures of the item during this process
- I weigh it and note dimensions.
- Purchase and print my label.
- Print an invoice. If buyer purchases a computer, they get a business card with it
- Seal and label package. Take a picture of the package and label
- Do my feedback for buyer.
- Send message to buyer thanking them for the purchase, informing them the order is complete, how its shipped and including the pictures of their item and how its packaged.
I never ask for feedback, nor would I. I am always polite, proper formatting of my messages, and respond very quickly to questions, purchases, etc. If I'm away from the office, I will send a buyer a quick message to let them know I will prepare their order as soon as I return to the office. No buyer likes purchasing something and being left in ambiguity for hours to a day or more before something happens.
You can see how my buyers respond to my efforts.
Now.
That all said, I'm not a large volume item seller. Its a lot easier to have a more personal touch when you are selling fewer items. Those of you with a lot of sales per day might find that sort of effort difficult to keep up with.
Anyway, just my view.

There is almost nothing you can do with coupons that actually works well. The code can be on the listing, most buyers won't notice it or use it. I sent out physical coupon codes with 1000 orders in a row back in 2021 and had zero redemptions.
I would blast coupon codes out to thousands of past customers at a time via mailing list and the most common number of redemptions per mailing list blast was zero.
Having a better price in the first place is hundreds of times more effective than a coupon code.

My feedback is set up to leave positive feedback AUTOMATICALLY once positive feedback is received. It's up to the buyer to decide they're satisfied with the transaction. They have no reason to expect a seller to leave them positive feedback first.
Very simply put. In a face to face transaction, do you say "You're Welcome" before the person you give something to says "Thank you?"
Where I come from a buyer usually initiates the handshake when they're satisfied with the deal. Why should it be any different when it comes to feedback. I'm not going to shake the hand of someone who "screams in my face."

I used to leave feedback within two days after shipment.
I realized I was improperly rewarding the buyers who were returning items and I could not retract the feedback. The return issues were overwhelming buyer mistakes, in reality.
Since then, I leave feedback at 10 days after payment. I feel better not giving false positives to careless buyers.

Not a bad way to handle it I suppose.
Though, if you look at how I leave feedback, nothing about it actually praises the buyer. Its a simple thank you for purchasing, your item ships on this date, and that's all there is. I don't say they are a good buyer or anything. Its more along the line of a thank you and status update and that's all they get. I also don't reply to feedbacks. Though I have considered it, and may start using that as a means of conveying that they are a good buyer. 😄

I don’t really pay attention to it but my repeat buyers have gone up and I also do it in hopes if other people look at their feedback that they buy from me

Incorrect, if you have a public coupon, it automatically applies so yes, it does get used. My private coupons also work very well when using buyer groups and newsletter. If you're an everything seller, coupons won't work that well, if your niched like myself, they work great. Hence why I think niching down is important but that's neither here nor their. If you have a public coupon though, it will automatically get applied when they check out.
Try using buyer groups and newsletters. Again, if your selling everything from candles to old rotary phones then it's not going to be as effective as someone who sells in one category.
