What time can we change clothing conditions?

What time on February 4 do you think the new preowned clothing conditions will be live? Midnight Pacific time? What’s your best guess?

GF asked me - she sells clothing - I told her to save herself the headache and don't check until Feb 5. ðŸ˜‚

Whenever it becomes available. Although I wouldn't go out of my way to worry about doing that anytime soon as

a.) buyers have no clue this is going on

b.) used is used is used so now stating 'how' used will not even be on most buyers radar in the first place.

How "used" definitely would be very helpful for me (as a buyer) if sellers can be accurate. I would want to exclude from search results for anything that was listed as Fair, and possibly Good as well when shopping for a clothing item.

@slippinjimmy  "I would want to exclude from search results for anything that was listed as Fair"

you will lose out on some great stuff if you do that: most sellers WAY over-promise/under deliver.

I do the opposite. Under promise, over deliver.

almost everything I bought on Ebay (and other sites that sell used items) has been described as "Good" or even "Very Good" and yeah, no. They were NOT good and a million miles from "Very Good". I learned that long ago and usually ignore their claims of "excellence" and just choose knowing there will be flaws. I expect it because it's been the case 99.9% of the time on every used item. That is fine, I prefer to buy used for a million reasons but anyone claiming something is excellent (and selling from their private home) is exaggerating IMO.

only HONEST sellers will mark their items as FAIR.

once an item leaves the store it's IMPERFECT. period. even if it has tags and whatever attached. It's automatically USED and impossible to be "Excellent" or even "Very Good"....IMO. Even if never worn, it's been in someones private care...in their ordinary home with normal life stuff happening all around it.

so anybody skipping the "Fair" condition items is skipping honest sellers.

Re: What time can we change clothing conditions?

Totally agree. We are downsizing our store. It has been too much. Daughter & I tried to build up a resale business last year only to find out we did more in the previous. It has been more work, less pay, more headaches. Going to stick with vintage and less clothes, smaller inventory.  Overall, with the changes times our time this is just going to stay a sideline. Honestly, it is rare that the buyers read the description anymore for clothing. So, tell her not to worry.

Re: What time can we change clothing conditions?

Just another dumb update that could cost sellers personal hours to revise.

I have a full-time job! I put full details in my listings. Description, measurements, close up photos.

eBay needs to start paying me for my time.

Re: What time can we change clothing conditions?

But the problem is that this is all subjective. You don't have one AI machine judging all pieces of clothing based on very specific criteria. You have potentially millions of sellers and buyers now specifically grading what is "fair", "good" and "excellent" in the used clothing market. The criteria they've given us is vague. I try to under promise and over deliver. So most things I would say are "good", others may consider "excellent". But then you get really nit picky people who are going to say something is a grade below what the seller selected. Then you open up a whole new can of worms with INADs based on subjectivity and not fact. I'm not trying to sound difficult, but I just don't see this working well.

Re: What time can we change clothing conditions?

@lizual  well said. and like you, I try to "under promise/over deliver" - the catch is people want to believe they are buying a USED item for 2 cents and it's in pristine condition LOL and they pass on listings that suggest anything other than "excellent".

I think this will bite Ebay on the **bleep** but we shall see.

I sell on another site that makes you choose from a similar list of condition terms and I ALWAYS choose "FAIR" condition even if it's an item that was never used with original tags attached (to protect myself from crazies) and I sell more there than I do on Ebay. but it's a different kind of customer there and I have great feedback + appreciative fun customers ... so I think it will be different here on Ebay.

again, we shall see but I doubt this will help sell more items & will more likely cause headaches and a million more returns/refunds
