Anybody have a clue what this is? Measures 5" x 3" x 2.5" deep. Opens. Has a hanging loop at top. TIA

What is this?

Is the second picture when it's opened? Also, is that a hole on the lower part of it in that same picture?

I don't know what it ACTUALLY is (maybe someone who knows will chime in), but I had a fairly similar item that I sold as a necklace pendant.  And yes it was as large as that and made of brass too.  Some people just love GIGANTIC jewelry, lol.

Looks like part of a wind chime to me, not certain.

I think I got something like $50 for it too.  Granted it had that big natural stone on it, and I polished up the brass.

What is this?

Could be but the fact that it opens into two halves without a hinge makes me think it is not jewelry.

Kind of looks like an avocado.  It's the right color and I see etched leaves and a flower.  Maybe an ornament if it's not too heavy.

What 2 halves?  The op's 2 photos just show the front and back of one object that is concave.

My immediate thought was also avocado, but that's all I got.  It's avocado shaped.  There's a great sub Reddit called What is this thing, which this is perfect for.  The vast majority get solved quite quickly.

Do you know who you're talking to, @gurlcat?

Oh I love guessing games!

In Victorian days they had these eggs to hold candy or small treats.

Could this be from India, that could be some ornament.

Or it could come from my great state of Nevada and that's what we mail our ballots in to be counted!

It's not an avocodo. It's pretty easy to tell it's not since it's made out of brass, and avocados are not made out of brass. They're made out of fruit.

Excuse me????   LMAO.  I did not think it was an actual avocado 🤣😂🤣

It's clearly stylized to look like an avocado, so perhaps a decorative piece or perhaps a tool of some sort for an avocado.  I made a great reccomendation to OP on where to find out.  I hope your post is some sort of joke.

Of course not. We all know it's a golden goose egg. A real one. 🥚 😆

If it opens may have been used as a sachet to be hung in a closet to keep clothes smelling nice. You would be the scents inside.
