I listed 3 large cans of Lysol for auction starting at $9.95 and a Buy It Now price of $74.95. I had a buyer pay for two of my listing paying the $74.95 for each. Ebay emails me payment confirmation and to ship both orders. I go to post office first thing next morning and ship both orders and file the tracking number with Ebay and buyer. Then I get an email from Ebay the payment is on HOLD.
I checked listings prior to putting up my own auctions. I saw hundreds of auctions and sold auction with much higher prices then the price I listed. Why is my auctions being put on hold and buyers returned their payments AFTER I shipped some of my orders. What is a FAIR price for Lysol? Please I can't afford to ship items and pay shipping cost and not get paid for items I shipped. Many sellers like myself have to go to the post office at risk of getting infected, is it really to much to ask for $20 to $30 for one large can of Lysol?

@good-blessings wrote:But, if it is an auction and people choose to pay a premium for a product that is not something that sustains us, why the hysteria? It seems people might want to blame capitalism instead of individuals on here. I agree listing a product like this for more than 10% is questionable, but when it's listed for .99 and the market drives it up to $235 at auction, that may be a good price for someone who chooses to spend their money that way. I do not fully understand this issue why auctions are being sanctioned. Auctions do not have the same implications as Buy It Now or fixed listings.
Well I agree with you. In theory, the auction price represents a market price. The seller didn't set that price, the buyer did.

Attempting to profit off an international crisis is wrong no matter how you hack it.
Those that are defending or making excuses for this behavior, stop. When your people get sick because they couldn't get the supplies they needed to stay healthy because of hoarders selling it on eBay, don't come back here and expect sympathy.
I've had to go to a gas station to go to the bathroom for the last week because I can't find toilet paper anywhere. I'm ready to start dragging my rump across my hoarder neighbors yard like a dog in the hope she'll take pity and sell me a few rolls at a huge mark up.
I'm running low on laundry soap dish, dish soap and hand/bath soap, and I'm praying that I can find something somewhere.
Those of you defending these jerks need to really pay attention to the news and realize, because people are hoarding, it's the situation is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
Profiting from tragedy and fear is never okay
How many hoarders are actually selling on eBay? Anybody's guess. A large number of sellers on eBay are semi/professional sellers who source their items from distributors. They're not going to wal-mart to obtain their inventory. I doubt wal-mart would sell a single person that many packs of TP in the first place.

I highly doubt any of the sellers on eBay (and coming to the boards) are going to jail either... well not long term anyway... I mean if their stockpile is big enough and they are stupid enough (like the guy in NY) to cough and say they got covid then they ARE going to get arrested then they got to sit in jail till they post bond.
But my point in general is that at the very very least they are risking the ability to ever sell on eBay again, to getting fined and their items "donated" to a local church, hospital, local FD ect, to having to show up in court and tell the Judge "look your honor it wasn't my fault the buyer ran the price up" to community shaming (be it local or virtual).

Love it. lol

That would be a great idea. Amidst this crisis I have seen so many heroic deeds and acts of kindness. Price gouging for Lysol is not among those heroic deeds. Frankly, it shows that people take advantage of others during times like this this, and business or not, that is deplorable.

"price for in store purchase only"
Yeah it says that when it is an item they won't ship.

That is absolutely not a "fair" price for 3 large cans of Lysol. A fair price would be the cost a buyer would pay at their local grocery store, Walmart, etc. You are way in over your head, taking advantage of other peoples ignorance.
I'm assuming you mean that only for these "essential items" at this time?

First off, I think you need to stipulate 'Fair Price' to whom, and for what purpose?
The 'Fair Price' to the person selling it, the person buying it, the person needing it, the person stockpiling it, etc., you know, the price to whom. It is only large corporations where one price/size fits all.
I suppose this is going to get argued to death for, at least, the next 6 to 12 months.

I noticed in your sold items list that you sold 18 cans of Lysol for a total of $452.49 including the obscene price you charged each of those buyers for shipping. That comes to over $25 for each can that those buyers had to pay in order to get them at your BIN price. You must be really proud of yourself! Congratulations!!!
I also noticed that you reside in NY. I sincerely hope that NYS AG Letitia James gets wind of sellers like you who are not just price gouging but selling illegal items on a site that clearly prohibits it. I won't be surprised if one of those buyers purchased from you with exactly that thought in mind.

I think someone is asleep at the wheel at ebay. I got sick and tired of not only seeing ridiculously high prices for lysol on ebay but the fact that people are actually buying it at that cost. Just to let you know I did my own investigation...I reported EVERY seller on ebay who is either selling at a high cost even if the shipping is free and those who are selling at a lower cost with stupidly high shipping costs. Also...Note they are misspelling the product maybe to avoid being caught. I have seen it spelled lisol, Lys0l and just called disinfectant spray. You know, there were only two pages of these on ebay...I think it is time they got a task force together to keep after these sellers and ban them from future selling if they violate. People...STOP PAYING THE STUPID HIGH PRICES IT WILL NEVER GO DOWN OR BE AVAILABLE ON STORE SHELVES IF YOU DON'T!! I am now going to go on ebay and proibably Amazon and report EVERY SINGLE DAY MAYBE EVEN TWICE A DAY UNTIL THIS STOPS...Join me and we can get rid of the price gauging.

I don’t understand it either. I got in trouble for price gouging for a bottle of Spic and Span I grabbed when it was the last one left. I have a receipt from UPS showing it was $15 to mail a 16 oz bottle, and Spic and Span is a 32 oz bottle. Had it listed at Buy it Now for $25, but would accept $20 offers (meaning no profit after you ground mail it with UPS because I had free shipping. They said I was price gouging. Honestly, my mom is a recent paraplegic and has to use 91% alcohol to put her leg on, which is the only reason I was listing anything anyways.. for people like her who’s lives have been impacted and they have to shop from home. Second, call it spoiled, but I’ll pay extra for a VIP table in some places, or pay extra to fly first class, so if I want to spend $75 on a can of Lysol or $30 for some paper towels, eBay is supposed to be the site to do that on. Amazon is where you can trust you get what you ordered. eBay is more sketchy and known to have knock offs and overpriced stuff. When you hit buy now or place bid... it’s your own money to do whatever you want with it. Gamble it away, drink it away, spend it all on eBay, who cares!!!! Sorry this happened to you. I know how you feel.
