In my humble opinion just keeping it real and relevant...
After YEARS of this being a problem WHEN will they DO SOMETHING about this? Rather than keep it the heinous, back door source of revenue that it is? Can't they see it alienates buyers & sellers both!!(Just lost another multi-item sale due to this!)
(PS...Hey ebay how's that stock doing that no one wants to touch with a 10ft pole rather than be conned by all the FAKE(imho) Buy Ratings - The above situation and so many more just like it are what keep the price suffering - Got to figure that a lot of current stock buyers are past ebay members, or familiar enough with the inside story that they can see through the short term Bull - The Powers that be at eBay are turning the site into an ARENA rather than a marketplace - Its insane - utterly insane)

I have been buying and selling on Ebay for 20 years. My shopping cart DOES NOT have a request total from seller. It only has a PAY button.
Please do not presume I do not know how to use the shopping cart. This has been a common complaint from many long term buyers on these boards.
Wow

I used to just add the shipping into my prices and have "free shipping" but since they took away the restock fee option I started charging actual shipping. It was a nightmare at first because I couldn't understand why the combined shipping rules I had set up were not working. Then I fould out it was an on going issue . Most of my items are under 3 oz. so I ended up just making a shipping discount promotion. I know one reason a buyer may not be able to request the total, if they have anything in their cart that is a markdown or part of a promo it won't work.

Excuse me but did i say YOU dont know how to use the shopping cart? no i did not.
was i telling you in particular? NO
why so offended?
I send many messages to buyers on how to use their shopping carts, i have the blurb saved so i can copy and paste it. That was all i was saying, why are you so bent out of shape?
I don't presume anything, but I DO know there are some buyers who cannot figure out the shopping cart.
Depending on how sellers have their combined shipping set up affects the cart, the cart can be glitchy where it duplicates orders, i know there are problems with the cart even when you know how to use it.

I lost 2 sales just this week because Ebay won't combine shipping on an auction item and a fixed price item. WHAT THE HECK??? I sell used clothing, so customers are frequently shocked when they find out that a heavier item (like a coat or a big sweater) is required to go priority and costs $8-12 to ship. They often ask if they can add on to the order to make the charge more worthwhile. Unfortunately, I can't help them at all, because eBay won't let me combine shipping on anything that isn't a pending auction sale. I've checked my settings - supposedly I am able to combine shipping on all items, but it doesn't work that way in real life. I asked one customer to contact eBay and this was eBay's response: The seller should offer free shipping. **bleep**? Most of my items cost $9.99. I can't afford to offer free shipping or I would never make a dime. Ebay seems to be designed for people who sell computer equipment, cameras and other big ticket items where a seller can offer free shipping without losing their shirt. ALSO: when I offer to refund the buyer for the ship charge on the smaller item, it comes back to haunt me. Scammers know to do this. Here's how it works: The scammer buys 2 items and asks to combine the shipping. I can't combine the shipping through eBay, so I agree to refund the extra ship charge, and send both items in one package. Then the scammer claims that one of the items has a flaw. I pay the return shipping and have to refund the original shipping. Ebay charges me on all ship charges. Total cost to scammer is the purchase price of one item minus shipping. Total cost to me is all the shipping charges, including the return shipping. I make negative money. I honestly can't believe that people are willing to go to this much trouble to get free shipping, but they are. It's happened to me twice - both times the supposed flaw in the returned item was either made up or actually created by the buyer. One buyer actually cut a hole in a sweater in order to do this. So I also lose the value of the returned item. Ebay absolutely knows that scammers do this, but it relies on small sellers like me to take the hit. Ebay treats its sellers the way UBER treats its drivers.
