In my humble opinion just keeping it real and relevant...
After YEARS of this being a problem WHEN will they DO SOMETHING about this? Rather than keep it the heinous, back door source of revenue that it is? Can't they see it alienates buyers & sellers both!!(Just lost another multi-item sale due to this!)
(PS...Hey ebay how's that stock doing that no one wants to touch with a 10ft pole rather than be conned by all the FAKE(imho) Buy Ratings - The above situation and so many more just like it are what keep the price suffering - Got to figure that a lot of current stock buyers are past ebay members, or familiar enough with the inside story that they can see through the short term Bull - The Powers that be at eBay are turning the site into an ARENA rather than a marketplace - Its insane - utterly insane)

Because they want you to offer free shipping !!
Did you know there is no "request total from seller" on the app?
That's my biggest headache having to ask buyers to jump on a lap top/desk top to check out. There are quite a few people nowadays that only have phones and tablets.

Buying on the app from the "site that shall not be named" is a pleasure.
Doing practically ANYTHING on the eBay app is an ordeal.

But combined orders are more rare there (at least for me, though once in a while I'll get them).

Well, eBay collects fees on shipping payments.
Why does eBay make it so hard to reduce the fees you'll pay?
Because they can.

Free shipping is great if i was selling toasters as you usually only buy one toaster when shopping...not so good if you sell lots of smalls like i do when bundlingitems into a flat rate envelope/box gives better rates.
My daughter buys tons of makeup and beauty products, she likes to bundle, she gets more for her $$$ if her seller will ship 20 make up items in apadded envelope. She worked that out for herself and she is one of those dreaded millenials

I tried to see the types of items you were selling so I could make some suggestions, but I don't see any items for sale under this user ID.
If you go to your Shipping preferences you can create rules to Add the weights, or add a specific amount in order to combine purchases for a shipping discount.

Why do you and others think it's against some rule to say Amazon, Etsy, Bonanza or the specific site you're alluding to? If it's actual rule can you point me to where it is?
I was looking at the Alexa stats for eBay yesterday afternoon. I think eBay has some other problems they need to address that are far more pressing.

In the past, on this forum, I have actually been officially warned for mentioning those names. No published policy that I'm aware of, but there are also other hidden eBay policies that no one is aware of ... until thay are.

It's not the app. I haven't seen a "request total from seller" on the website either. I have had sellers send me critical emails, that I should have requested the total. There was no way to do so.
I have bought over 10 thousand items on Ebay over the years. I know how to request a total.

The other day, I was going to buy a couple of things on ebay; the seller offered combined shipping in the listing but said he would figure it out after I paid.
I didn't buy, I kept thinking about problems, right or wrong, that I have read about on this board about combined shipping. I guess I have doubts. Maybe I shouldn't read these boards!

Combined shipping eBay on eBay is just confusing. The buyer would have to buy the same item with the same color to automatically get it. If the buyer gets an item with different color or size, then good luck. The buyer would then request the seller to refund the combined shipping. The seller never gets back the fee paid to eBay. I quit partially refunding the combined shipping discounts. The profits on eBay or any other eBay like platforms are already low enough.

Appreciate the information - We normally sell one-offs of MANY different weights and sizes, so it is virtually impossible to set up a rules under eBays ridiculously standardized rule creation.

Unfortunately the SIZE of the shipping container is now either just as important or a greater concern that the weight. Most of the items I sell (>1lb) fall into the dimensional rates when items are combined, so eBay's "combine weights" is a recipe for disaster for me. My listing state that I offer combined shipping and if it doesn't show in the cart, please contact me, that's really the best I can under eBay's "one size fits all".

Shopping cart icon is at or near the top of the screen on the right hand side.
once you have clicked on the icon and the cart opens up again at or near the top of the screen on the right hand side in tiny little letters it says "request total from seller".
I send this message a lot to buyers who don't understand how the shopping cart works, many presume i can actually see into their carts and can do it for them.
I do have combined shipping rules set up but on many orders i can still lower the shipping as 40 yards for example will fill a large flat rate box which is cheaper for customers than the calculator just adding on $1.30 per additional yard.
There is no request total from the useless app and that is my biggest headache.
