Recently I've seen a bunch of sellers coming here complaining about slow sales because ebay has been messing with views.
Let's agree that ebay has been messing with views. Let's say the views are TOTALLY SCREWED UP.
How does that effect sales?

Because it gives them yet another reason to lay blame solely on eBay....

I have yet been able to buy any food or any items for that matter using my views...........

It is a psychological thing... views equal views... sales equal sales. We all have stuff listed that might not ever sell. So who cares if we have views compared to actual sales?
I have seen many complain about slow sales blaming eBay like this. Then I look at the listings they have and it is glass and costume jewelry. Go figure haha

I went to look at my active listings earlier today and was greeted with some messages from ebay about views, namely that ebay was now only going to count views in the last 30 days.
My sales were abysmal before this change; maybe they will pick up now?

It's like a pacifier for some. Views equals interest from someone and without a large number of views they immediately think something is wrong.

Well, here's my complaint. I've had TWICE my normal sales since they messed with views /s.
Actually, I will say on a serious note, that I was surprised by how low my newly calculated views are & it was a bit of a shock, however, it hasn't changed my sales one bit, in fact, they're up. So, I guess my takeaway is "it only takes one".

This is from velvet, but you know this already.
We announced in our most recent Seller Update that we’ve revised some categories and item specifics to help make your listings easier to find on eBay and by external search engines.
Starting today, you’ll see updates to the following categories:
Business & Industrial (Sinks)
Collectibles & Toys
Electronics (Cameras)
Health & Beauty (Covid tests)
Home & Garden
Parts & Accessories (Wheels & Tires)
Sporting Goods (Golf & Cycling)
Watches
During this transition, your listing experience could be temporarily impacted, as well as the visibility of your listings. You may notice some item specifics changing names, listings moved to different categories, or some listings temporarily not appearing in searches.
Any affected listings should return to normal within a week, though some effects to listings’ visibility in searches may continue for up to three weeks.
Once these changes are complete, we recommend checking your listings in the above categories to see if any were affected. Learn more about category changes → please scroll down the page to see the links for the specific category changes.
We understand these updates will take extra time and may cause some frustration, but our goal is to help you increase your listings’ visibility and sales.
Keep an eye on this page over the coming days—we’ll be sharing up-to-date information on affected categories and listings, and answering any questions you have.

...if I could sell something, I would be so delightful and grateful...
...and if I couldn't sell anything, I'm still happy because I can get extra time to relax from my main career...
...but my empathy to the others for not being able to get good sales...I wish you all the best...

I find it helps to remember two things:
1) eBay failing to report a view is not a visibility issue. The item still got viewed, because eBay does not have a time machine to go back and undo the fact that someone looked at an item.
2) If you change your perspective slightly, isn't a view on an active listing really just an indication that someone was NOT interested in buying your item? 🙂

I wonder if this will lead sellers to try to upgrade their listings.......better title/pic/prices.....etc...... those are the things that lead a buyer into the listings (and therefore produce a "view")...........

Well, how about a nice conspiracy theory?
I seem to remember once reading that eBay Search bots/algorithm/whatever involves evaluating the "desirability" of a listing by checking (among other things) views. If views were low, the listing might be considered to be undesirable and much less likely to be displayed in Search.
Now...when the views algorithm changed in the last couple weeks (a month? or?) to rolling 30 days, what if the Search desirability bot/algorithm/whatever was NOT changed (because eBay groups don't always communicate?) All those past-30-days views were lost and the listing made Search think to itself, "Pah! I'm not going show that low-view loser listing to a potential buyer."
[ Not having had a sale in 2 1/2 weeks I've had plenty of time to get some much-needed gardening done.]

We have never had huge views on every listing on here ever. But we do have a lot of inventory, and yes, it only takes one to buy.

Well yes, it is intuitive to think that the more views you have you will get a sale, however, keep in mind that the views before this update were full of non interested to buy BOTS, fishin around, I am sure a lot of window shoppers and comparisons shoppers who may or may not buy at all.
