Recently  I've seen a bunch of sellers coming here complaining about slow sales because ebay has been messing with views.

Let's agree that  ebay has been messing with views.  Let's say the views are TOTALLY SCREWED UP.

How does that effect sales?

Re: Views

The bottom line......regardless what eBay is burdening you/us with details and percentages and the like, it ONLY matters if and when the sale goes through. There are no specific counts to be met BEFORE it becomes a sale. REMEMBER, you cannot sell from an empty shelf!

Re: Views

I mean they use AI to do almost everything so why didnt they make one to do a simple code more views = more popular = more profit = rank higher in searches.

Re: Views

It turns out it's not just about views.  It's about ebay throwing your listed items into different categories than what you originally had them in without giving any notice.    Look up at the top of your listings - are all of your listings in the same category you put them in?  But, wait, I don't think they are  finished with their new categories according to the list of new categories:  https://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/categorychanges.html

And problem is, even if you make a completely new listing and put it in one of the old categories you have chosen, it will revert the category when you list it (even though in preview it shows it is in the category you chose).  Ex: I put my listings in Art>paintings.  Ebay moved them to Home & Gardens>Art>Paintings.  And when I just added a new listing and made sure it said Art>paintings in Preview, when I pressed "List It" and then viewed it again it showed ebay's showen category Home&Gardens.  So this is why sellers are losing sales -  because buyers are probably just as confused in finding what they are looking for!

Re: Views

Your statement is exactly why I even found this thread. Because since they changed, to take away the bot viewing, my views are low and as you say, relisting items as "similar" I've seen them sit for days at zero! I have a feeling there's some type of glitch in the change? I don't know but something weird is going on.

Re: Views

Why do you even come on the forum since you have not sold anything in over 6 months.  The problem that is happening right now on Ebay, is completely Ebay's FAULT. They have even admitted it***

Re: Views

THANK YOU** Finally someone is talking the truth. A lot of the seller saying there is not a problem, DO NOT even have any items listed or sold in many months.

Re: Views

It's NOT only about views that is causing all the problems. They are in the process of updating "Item Specifics & Category Structures" on the total system per Ebay. That is causing all the problems with views, sales and all the complaining.  Good Luck**

Re: Views

Yes, that would be one of the benefits of really seeing how many views each item is getting and not the inflated one’s from the bots and the eternal views of the listing instead of 30 days. You can make better decisions about what you might like to do with a low view listing.

Yeah, I think a whole lot of people never realized how many of their "views" were actually nothing more than bots crawling the listings. The new way of displaying views is a lot more accurate to how much actual interest there is in an item in terms of real live people looking at it, not bots.

Re: Views

A ke y to successful sell is to get a shopper to stop and what to   get more  info on the product you are selling a  long time poster  professed put an eye on your item or items.  Your listing is your best  sales person. in on line buying that first  photo need to be good enough for  shopper to stop and read more (kinda like a teaser photo or  that show 'em just a little leg approach) and then when they open up your listing you only have a  few minutes like  2 or 3 or less to close the deal.  If the content looks like a signing of a 30 year home mortgage - they will do a walk on by in less than a New York second.  Personal  total price is not the most important issue - confidence in the seller is most important - they are a part of the total value which is key to success.key.  A buyer  have various needs that drive them to buy.  This article seems to provide a good  insight and summaries  the thoughts I heard over and over  during during  seminars, Dale Carnegie course, sales meeting over my selling  career.

https://www.wooly.com/post/why-do-customers-buy-products.

No one listing can  meet all these needs. In NFL football they used to  say "On Any Given Sunday" and maybe they still do - don't watch much any more  lost my interest.  Here is what that  saying means and applies to  selling too except Sunday is 24/7/365 or 366 on  on line selling  https://www.sports-king.com/dictionary.php?q=any-given-Sunday.  Selling is all about people dealing with people and we are all individual in our own rights.  That will never change.

Re: Views

I agree that buyers don’t search by category but AI does and it is AI that feeds the keywords search results.

AI is programmed (algorithm) to show buyer what they may like and sometimes is it not related to the key words buyer typed. Your item may come up or not depending on many factors. If the item is in the wrong category the AI/robot is not going to show item in search as it is programmed to recognize searches]d items by category.

also when I get too many items in search I filter them by category that I think the item will be found in.

Another example : buyer was looking for something but couldn’t find it either because AI was poorly programmed or glitched or there was no inventory at the time of search or item didn’t meet buyer criteria. Buyer didn’t buy that item and stopped searching. Next time this buyer searches for something else but it turns out that ebay has now item that meets buyer demand from the previous search so AI throws in that item although it is not related to searched key words. It happened to me many times.

Many of us use a "posting ID" and we do not post on the boards with our Selling IDs.  Does not mean that we are not Sellers or dealing with the issues posted on this thread/board.
