Is anybody else hating this change as much as I am? Variations are now in a bubble cloud instead of a list. When a listing has a lot of variations it takes forever to look through the bubbles to find the new ones you added just so you can upload pics.
What the hell is with all of these time-wasting changes by eBay? I swear the people in charge of these things do not use the tools they are changing. If they did there's no way they'd move forward with this garbage.

Goldfish memory? 3 seconds pass and they forget everything.

how do they possibly keep repeating the same mistakes month after month year after year?
because they have no institutional memory......employees get shuffled around or quit almost as soon as they become competent in one area.

eBay made 2 changes since kyle@ebay passed on my feedback about photos.
1. Upload from computer / web is now shown in the blank photo space and it's no longer hidden behind a 3 dot menu. Finally, some common sense integrated!
However once you upload a single photo, you cannot upload any additional photos without going through another 2-click process where you first click the photo square and then choose between upload from computer or web. That needs to be fixed.
On the positive side, with the new format I can drag+drop variation pics which the listing form prevented with the old version when using Safari browser. Don't know why. Worked OK on Firefox just not Safari and others reported the same.
2. Edit photo / delete are also no longer hidden behind the 3 dot menu. Instead the trash can is back on the photo so you can delete images with one click. And to edit a photo you just click on a photo. I'll have to check again but I didn't see a pencil icon and maybe that's why some sellers were confused on other discussions @valueaddedresource . Also the photo edit is happening within the photo window, not as an overlay (pop up) so that will look different to sellers. Doesn't bother me personally since I generally do my editing in Photoshop before upload.
At this point eBay still needs to make two changes to variation photos. One is to pull the "delete all" button out from behind the edit link. It should not be an unnecessary multi-click process. Two is to fix the multi-click process on additional photos as mentioned above. Hopefully Kyle can pass this feedback on and we can see improvement in that area.
Of course none of that addresses issues brought up in my original post on this thread, but at least it's something. I appreciate that much even if I'm still banging my head against the wall with other issues. 😛
Feel like this needs to be said (again) because eBay product developers never seem to understand it:
Sellers do not want an app experience on the website. When I want a simplified experience with no options and a thousand taps to find what I'm looking for I'll use the app. When I want a professional and efficient business experience I use the website. I have an iPhone and an iPad. I use them both constantly. I use apps constantly. I'm not tech-averse.
But when I list on eBay I intentionally use my laptop and the eBay website along with Excel inventory charts and other tools. eBay provides you [product developers] with actual computers, right? Laptops and desktops? They don't force you to do your product development and perform your job from an app? Yes, that's correct. So ... don't expect sellers to conduct all of their business on an app or a website that (non)-functions like a severely limited and inefficient app. You're crippling our ability to run our businesses efficiently.

@bdmh-enterprises wrote:Yup, mine looks like that too. BUT, having just looked, I think I might like it better. Looks like it will mean less scrolling to and from the add photo box.
Correct, this would be one benefit from this. But I'm not sure if it outweighs the confusion from the clutter. Whenever I hit the scrolling issue, I simply us the zoom out function in my browser.
What I can't stand with variations is why the hill can't you drag and drop the photos in?!? 3 clicks and a scroll per photo.. Now that's inefficient. Mine usually only use 1 photo, I'd go bananas if I had to do 8 pics per like that.
Also something I can agree with that would be super helpful.
I currently see it the "classic" way and not how the OP does. I fear me replying to this thread may have put a target on my account and now ebay will enroll me into this dumb test program.

If eBay wanted to improve and shorten the page length, all they had to do was keep the old list format, but put it into a fixed height with a scroll bar. It would have kept the old functionality (as long as the window was decently long and didn't cut off after a dozen variations) and would also condense the page view.
Edit typo.
I'm thinking this was clearly done to help cater to the sellers who use their phones and the app to list and revise. I don't even want to bother and think of the actual benefit for those sellers, because I never use the app. But that's just a guess.

App does not support variations. Even if you create variations on the web, you can't so much as edit quantity on the app.
I'm really sick of eBay trying to mirror the website to the limited app.

Also - if you save changes to go back to the main listing page, then go back into the variations page - does it still show the wrong thumbnails?
I am afraid to do this ↑ ↑ ↑ Could I lose all my current variation photos if it does not work?
It will never do that and stick UNLESS you click the "Revise it" button on the parent revision page. If that button is never clicked, any change you make in your listing never gets saved. Oftentimes when I'm revising listings and the page goes wonky and I'm not sure if I messed anything up significantly I simply close the browser window without clicking "revise it" and start over.

10 Second Tom is in charge of ebay's development team.

What?!?!?! Not like that matters to me, but still.
I agree with what you said above. Yea it's like ebay wants to stay away from looking like an enterprise app and be more like a consumer app. My guess is this is an attempt to attract more new sellers and not focus on actual functionality.

FYI @mcdougle4248 , I am now experiencing this same issue intermittently with the new version of the variations page.
Since I already went through testing with you I knew I could publish changes and be fine, but I did still exit variations to the parent page then went back into variations just to make sure. The first time. Now I'm just ignoring it. hah
I'm too tired to keep working. Calling it quits for the night. Have a nice weekend.

Hi @destry83 ! I saw your post on the Ask A Mentor forum here:
Please read posts 19-27 in this discussion if you want the detail, but the short answer to your inquiry is:
This is a display error with the variation thumbnails. The variation photos are not actually changing, it's just appearing funky on that page, so you can go ahead and proceed with listing as normal.
The tech issue has been reported to eBay and they are aware of what's happening.

Hi @mcdougle4248 and @destry83 . Please check to see if you're still experiencing the display issue with variation thumbnails. It was still buggy earlier today, but with the last hour I spent revising variation listings, it looks like the issue is fixed!

Thank you for the heads up.
I will be working on variation listings this weekend and let you know what I see.

I have been working on variation listings for a couple of hours today and the issue appears to be fixed 😀
