Updates are happening to some item specifics and category structures

We announced in our most recent Seller Update that we’ve revised some categories and item specifics to help make your listings easier to find on eBay and by external search engines.

Starting today, you’ll see updates to the following categories:

Business & Industrial (Sinks)

Collectibles & Toys

Electronics (Cameras)

Health & Beauty (Covid tests)

Home & Garden

Parts & Accessories (Wheels & Tires)

Sporting Goods (Golf & Cycling)

Watches

During this transition, your listing experience could be temporarily impacted, as well as the visibility of your listings.  You may notice some item specifics changing names, listings moved to different categories, or some listings temporarily not appearing in searches.

Any affected listings should return to normal within a week, though some effects to listings’ visibility in searches may continue for up to three weeks.

Once these changes are complete, we recommend checking your listings in the above categories to see if any were affected.  Learn more about category changes → please scroll down the page to see the links for the specific category changes.

We understand these updates will take extra time and may cause some frustration, but our goal is to help you increase your listings’ visibility and sales.

Keep an eye on this page over the coming days—we’ll be sharing up-to-date information on affected categories and listings, and answering any questions you have.

Re: Updates are happening to some item specifics and category structures

My store sales are down about 50% for this month, and down 50% last month. It makes no sense to be changing all these things when the economy is crashing.  Regular buyers are still buying a few pieces of art glass items. Biggest problem is the extremely low views, I use to send out 40 to 50 offers per day and know I might be doing 3 or 5 a day.

Re: Updates are happening to some item specifics and category structures

Hello, I have been also experiencing a sudden lack of sales over the last week. I just wonder if the update above has affect my sales.  My account is @youknownippon and @samuraijpn if you could take a look into my account, it would be highly appreciated.  Thank you so much for your help for the matter.

Re: Updates are happening to some item specifics and category structures

Hello, community_team

I replied because I knew this site and wanted to know why sales suddenly dropped and impressions dropped.

I started relisting in January this year, and from the middle of the month a week later, the products sold at least once a day until mid-March.
Along with that, the impressions and page views have returned to their original state.
However, sales have stopped sharply since then, and impressions and page views have fallen. We started to increase the number of items sold from the end of March, and this month we have lowered the items and re-listed them, but the situation has not changed.

Please check my account.

Re: Updates are happening to some item specifics and category structures

Is this affecting listing views? I noticed a lot of my listing have 0 views now and not gone up much at all this week. So, I fear, your updates might not be increasing view on my listings, this not increasing my sales.

There have been a number of members posting in this thread about their drop in sales. Is there anything we can do to help you collect the member ids to pass on?

Hey @pburn! I've been going through and grabbing usernames for those noting a drop in sales. I've also tried to watch other posts like @partfinds noted as well.

Same thing is happening to dot ca sellers. When it comes to these sorts of announcements it feels like we are left out of the loop. The announcement did appear but no open discussion was added.

I know the announcement pages don't allow for discussion @lotzofuniquegoodies but you're always welcome to start a thread and then tag us. I'll pass on your request to have posts similar to this in the CA Community though.

Back to the original topic:

Will auction listings be affected by suppressed visibility?  Visibility for auctions is crucial in attracting multiple bidders and getting a decent price for an item.

Will auction listings be affected more so or less than BIN listings in visibility?

Will auction listings be given preference in any way?  Will compensation be given to sellers whose eBay caused lack visibility results in low selling price or no sale?

Hi @b86fiero! I was advised that nothing about these category changes will affect visibility, best match, or anything of the like.

Confused by your response above ^^^

Your OP states "though some effects to listings' visibility in searches may continue up to three weeks."

Your response states "nothing about these category changes will affect visibility ....."

Please kindly clarify.  Thank you.

Hello Velvet,

As follow up this is similar to having the Technical Issues discussion forum on dot ca and no one from eBay directly addressing those issues and their status. Unless that forum is just there for show.

Re: Updates are happening to some item specifics and category structures

Yes, it is affecting all listing views, which in turn is NO sales. On 5-18 there were 110,000 listings for Fenton Glass, on 5-19 in the morning there were 52,000 and last night there was 85,000. Today 5-20 the listings are at 53,000.  So that means that over 50% of the listings are not showing up. And as far as my views & sales ZERO.

Except for a couple of regular buyers, buying from my store.  Good Luck ***

Judging from the current thread-title page of the Share eBay Technical Issues board on ebay.com, no one from eBay directly addresses issues or their status on that board, either. Looks like one individual member pretty much does the heavy lifting on the ebay.com board.
