Hello Community,

We want to make the Community a safe and enjoyable place for all to come participate and learn from one another. The Community team has recently updated the Community Guidelines. You can find them here.

I'll keep this post up for until the end of day on July 6th for feedback on the Guidelines.

Thank you for participating in Community!

and this is a perfect example of that, as you did not post this as a reply then it is taken as a "general/not to anyone's post in particular, it links to no one's post

when it puts that persons name up it also provides a path back to the post that someone is replying to.

you certainly may do as you choose 🙂 Not saying that you can not use caps, but probably been posted before...................   using caps in messaging is generally considered to be yelling. ymmv

Hi, Benz!

On a chat board, all CAPS is considered yelling.  It is a universal corrollary (not just on e-Bay boards)

And your post reads as though you are upset/frustrated.

Sorry the posting process has been the source of consternation for you.  It does get easier as some of the parameters become more clear, the more you use the site.

Glad you are here posting.  Every voice counts, as it should.  Hang in there - Happy 4th!„

When you use mobile device it is just harder to make it fancy. Caps lock is just there fast easy and convenient. But i will do my best promise to work on it.

maybe we should have like a list of dos an don’ts .. sort of like etiquette of how not to anger others?

Re: Updated Community Guidelines

sheila@ebay   What is a "death pile photo" as mentioned below???

Share, celebrate… and have fun!

Buying and selling on eBay isn’t the only thing that is important to you. Share your hobby, or complain about your pet peeve. Celebrate your latest thrifting score, or post a death pile photo. This community welcomes hearing about your latest personal triumph, a moment where you need support, or just an amazing meal you made (in the appropriate forum). This community is designed to connect people, and the more we get to know each other, the more our businesses will grow together.

Re: Updated Community Guidelines

How about people who turn a thread into a partisan political circus or rant. It's ruined more threads than I can count. Shouldn't these be reported as well in the future?

@wrong66   That's a good point ... the Soapbox is better suited for those topics ...

Someone decides a certain way of posting has a certain meaning and if enough people go along with it then it becomes normal that this means that, even if that is not your intent.

Sort of like bad use to mean something was no good but some how it can now mean something is really nice.

I used red text once to distinguish between two post and was severely chewed out.

I seen a poster get chewed out for using eBay's Normal Text.  They were told it was offensive, lectured not to do it and told to only use eBay's Small Text no matter how much that the person explained the eBay's Normal Text is better for their eyes.

Anyway if you use the  Quote Function at the top you can effectively distinguish between the prior post and your comments.

@stephenmorgan  Some of this is simply how people type (or talk in real life) ...it could be regional as well.

Know what I mean? Are you catching my drift?  Are you feeling my vibe?  S'up cool dude? Ain't nobody got time for that!

My experience is that, when someone responds to a post, that post then floats to the top.

For example, if I reply to your above post on about the 6th, for instance, it will float up to the top.

That will depend on how you have set some of your preferences for the community.  There are all kinds of settings we can choose from @soh.maryl

i didn’t yell. I wnted the response to look different from your respinse so it is easier to see (this is what I do in my listings- use capital letters to make it more visible). Sorry

i am not looking for recommedation to downgrading here (i already did). This post os about community rules, violarions, suspensions and ways to improve them.

i did anger someone aparently. Brain_burke said about angering… this is just an example how you can anger without saying anything. Rules are for some but not for all.

Posting a few words in all caps is for emphasis on those words.  To post your entire statement in all caps is yelling in world of writing things.

There should be also change to tagging as some find it a way to report or a way to be malicious. Like i was tagged „misinformation” when that was not the case.

you can’t even report someone for being malicious an ddisrespectful in tagging because you don;t know who tagged

Why can't you?  I've done it in the past.  I'm with you on this one.  Some posters use tags in ways they were never intended.

When I need to report a tag, I report the posting it appears on and I explain I'm reporting the tag and what the tag said.

Because

a.) I wasn't replying to anyone in particular, but brought it up right after another stated their 'response' in capitals and there was some back/forth with another poster; so it should read as a flow of the conversation.

b.) the entire thread is about the community board so this is just another 'comment' to discuss

I understand you can click the 'underlined' persons name, but it then takes me off the page by 10 pages depending on when the person that is being replied to posted.

I'm just saying many forums, when you click 'reply', the entire post that you are replying to is shown, so when you read a thread from page to page, when you come across a 'reply' it would be much easier to see what a poster is replying to.

Yea, I no what you mean.

There is a Country song that is about what words use to mean when he was a child.  I cannot think of the song title?
