THE CUSTOMER CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER SO THEY WANT US TO SEND THEIR ITEM AGAIN. SO THEN THEY GET TWO PACKAGES!!! SO WE END UP LOSING MONEY.....POSTAGE AND OUR PRODUCT!! WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE POSTAL SERVICE??

In 17 years of selling I've had 1 package delivered to the wrong address. In that time ~ 6 packages were initially shipped to the wrong state, Alaska vs. Massachusetts was the oddest, and every time the issue was resolved, without the need to initiate an inquiry, within a day. We ship same day or next business day and send buyers a message with all the shipping details including tracking # and expected delivery date. We check to make sure that packages are scheduled for delivery and if there is a delay we send the buyer a note letting them know that we will keep them updated. To date we've never had a buyer demand a refund for a delayed delivery and 99% of packages have been delivered within 1 day of the expected date.
That said buying USPS insurance for anything other than really valuable items is a waste of money because in the last 4-5 years they are denying routinely claims for damaged items. Assuming that a buyer is willing to document how the item was packaged, the USPS will merely claim that the packaging was insufficient.

I have had 3 "undelivered" items I sent first class without a tracking number in the past month. None have been returned to me. I had a personal piece of mail that took almost a month to go from New Mexico to North Carolina. It seems unreasonable to me to ship a small inexpensive photograph via Ground Advantage so that I have a tracking number. I'm sure the sales will go down as people won't want to pay that much but I am considering it now as the service seems to be getting worse and worse, and I do not want to keep refunding people either. I do not blame the carriers themselves for this mess, by the way.

USPS sucks. My packages are NEVER on time. I have had several instances where my package has made it to my hometown post office and instead of it being delivered they sent it out on a airplane ride around thecountry and back. I have one instance where I bought a package 912 miles away and by time I received it I added up the destinations on the tracking number and USPS had traveled it over 8000 miles before I received it. And it had been to my hometown post office twice before the third time that they actually sent it out for delivery. I cant stand USPS or the people that use it. Why is it when the line is all the way out the door every other person has the most oddball inquiry to hold up everybody else. And then everybody starts wanting weird shyt like "do you guys have any more of those Mickey Mouse stamps?" and then they elaborate "well not those ones, I want the ones where Mickey is wearing the wizards hat and the cups and plates are dancing through the air" and of course the counter person has to go look and come back to say "it dont look like we have any at the moment" and then proceed to explain the dates and times where they get restocked on special stamps and the whole time Im fantasizing of punching both of them in the head.

Oh, don't get me started...
Our PO is, for whatever reason, letting people set up passport appointments for any time of day, including major rush hours when they only have two clerks at the front desk to begin with. One of them is involved with a laborious passport application and the other gets a customer who wants to collect 2 weeks of held mail. This involves a lengthy wait while the clerk goes on a treasure hunt in the back room.
Finally the clerk reappears and hands over a pile of mail, but then the next customer in line has a bag of about 15 packages, none with postage, even though he clearly has a printer at home for address labels. We wait while the clerk types in every address to generate a full-retail label for each package, after which he pulls out a checkbook and writes a check for the total. He does this every... morning...
Conversely, I'm popular with the clerks because I did everything at home; all I need is the Acceptance scan in order to stop the clock on my Handling time, and trigger a notification to the buyer that his item has shipped. Bada-bing, Bada-boom, Have a Nice Day and I'm out the door in less than 60 seconds.

Change carriers to UPS or FedEx. I’ve noticed many times the difference in price is not that much more for UPS or FedEx versus USPS. Less than $1.00 for smaller packages.

After an overnight package took 4 months to get to me and another customer complained about 2 week delivery on a package, I send UPS or FEDEX. There are enough things to go wrong with a transaction so why add one more. I realize some sell lower price items or have light weight items and UPS and FEDEX might not work. I can only say good luck.

Hi, Here in New Jersey we have been using USPS Ground Advantage & find it very Slooooooow. However, our packages have ALWAYS made it to our buyers. We keep an eye on all of our tracking. If we see that a package is running a bit behind schedule we will notify our buyers & they seem to appreciate it. No INR cases have been files against us & feedback has been all good. Fingers are crossed.

I live outside of Memphis, TN, and USPS service here is not good. It usually takes 4 to 5 days to go out of the Hub before arriving at the local Post Office. I am sure other cities, states have better service, but not here. Many have complained for years, but falls on deaf ears.

I have had a few packages run late, I think most of the Government is in chaos right now. The only thing I can do is be patient.

Have heard over the years that USPS Memphis can be a problem child.
Best of luck.

I came here to search to see if there were any recent USPS threads.
I'm in Virginia and there have been significant issues since early March. Apparently, my local USPS implemented the new service policies a month early. Ground Advantage packages now sit at the local post office at least a day or two extra as they are now only running one truck per day between the local post office and the regional processing facility. This is only supposed to apply to post offices 50 or more miles away from the regional facility. Mine is 45 miles away. I guess they are rounding the distance like they do on packages. 😆
So far I have managed to navigate customers' concern. I've made sure to let them know they can return it on my dime if they no longer want it. What I do not know is automatically issue refunds. In most cases you cannot do the missing mail form unless there has not been a scan in 72-hours. I've not had anything go more than 72-hours without a scan. It's more like it just sits there, and gets an "arriving late" scan every night. I made some adjustments and I am shipping more UPS and FedEx on certain items. My experience as of late is that UPS Ground Saver and UPS Ground, along with FedEx Home Delivery/Ground, is arriving in 2-days out to Zone 4 and 2–3 days in Zone 5. The biggest issue is how to handle small, lightweight items. Those are not cost-effective to send any other way other than USPS. I have thought about adding a note at the top of all my listings to inform buyers of USPS delays, but that may scare them off. I don't want to do that.

So I will bite here and say I've noticed something going on. We ship out 5-15 packages a day and so far this year USPS has lost 6 of my packages. I put in for a "lost package" with USPS, filled out the paperwork and I was paid what the item was sold for plus the cost of the label. With that said, the last time the post office lost this many packages in such a short period of time was Covid, so I'm not sure what is going on. If you only ship a few items a week I would ship with UPS. Anything over $100 I ship through UPS and I've never had an issue. Good Luck!
