Did you mean:

Time to stock up on popcorn.

With the upcoming tariff induced price hikes coming along with the inevitable USPS price increase I suspect these boards are going to explode.

I do like a good train wreck.

Yes... there is often an inverse relationship between the amount of ink spilled and the quality of the ink.

But that's what makes the USA such a great place!

Re: Time to stock up on popcorn.

We all have our disagreements, and I personally don't.

I want a modernized postal system.

Areas such as GA with the Palmetto facility had a rough start. However, now when my packages run through it, it's very fast, and has improved delivery.

The USPS has been in a rough spot this year specifically as a lot of pressure has been put on the USPS due to the election. It sorta caused them to put holds on transitions during a time a lot of transitions were meant to take place. A lot of it was fear issues would arise with mail in ballots. However, there seems to have been no issue with mail in ballots.

I hope, the transition gets back on track because the USPS has been a massive burden on tax payers for years. Operating at billion dollar loses every year.

I know sellers like when the USPS had cheaper prices, but that was paid for by tax payer dollars and isn't what I believe is a good thing.

Re: Time to stock up on popcorn.

Higher prices factored in across all sales negates shipping costs when you ship in volume.

I'm going to say people misuse the constitution defense, when it doesn't actually prevent the USPS from becoming privatized.

The constitution gives congress the power to have authority over the USPS, and congress could infact pass legislation that would allow for the USPS to be privatized.

Article I, Section 8, Clause 7, often called the Postal Clause, which states:

"The Congress shall have the power... To establish Post Offices and post Roads."

@robbie31415

I have always believed that a profit driven system (i.e. private business) is infinitely more efficient than any government program which is usually tainted by lobbyist and special interests..

Consider Space-X versus NASA. NASA never figured out a way to re-use rockets and catch them on their downward trip. Talk about cost savings.

Consider the 7.5 BILLION dollars earmarked to build 500,000 EV charging station. To date they have only built EIGHT. Meanwhile private business is credited with putting up about 200,000.

In fairness some government programs by their nature of what they do simply can not be privatized. But those that can be should be.

In the late 30’s President Roosevelt established the Rural Electrification Agency with the intent of bringing electricity to far flung farms not being served by public utilities. Aside from whether or not that is a legitimate government function (the 10th Amendment) I think we can agree that everyone who wants electricity now has electricity. Whether from the utilities, or solar panes or portable generators. Yet that agency still exists with a current budget of 11 BILLION dollars. WHY ???? Private industry would have shut it down once its job was done at an 11 billion dollar savings.

Yes - privatize the post office. Isn’t UPS, FedEx et al the public equivalent? And they work quite well. (complaints on these boards notwithstanding)

You forgot to mention the upcoming EU General Product Safety Regulations, coming to an eBay site near everyone on December 13, 2024.

And the GPS Regulations can't be blamed on either Democrats or Republicans -- so no finger-pointing, please!

Well I've been saying for a long time I'm still waiting for someone to tell me how sending millions of cargo ships back and forth all over the world every year is "green".

One of the main reasons the US deploys billions of dollars worth of military assets (bought with the help of  American taxpayers) around the world is to ENSURE that the shipping lanes used by those cargo ships remain unobstructed.

Because when it comes to making sure that American consumers can get any piece of foreign-made garbage their hearts desire, "green" is irrelevant.

Now, the less we import from China and other countries, the fewer cargo ships there will be to worry about.

I am not sure whether and to what extent this might translate into a reduced need for an overseas US military presence... but one thing we can be certain of is that the largest American defense contractors are going to be watching the evolution of a new US trade police very carefully.

You said it.  Nobody cares because it can't interfere with global commerce.  Only our trucks and hamburgers are the problem.  Personally I say close 90% of our foreign bases, bring home all troops and assets.  Downsize the amount of imported goods, tariff the rest and start manufacturing in the US again.

You can't get "greener" than buying local.  I don't care what anyone says, international trade will never be green.  Unless they start using sail ships again.

Not to mention a return to quality in manufacturing.  Higher priced American made goods will have to compete for #1 again and to do so  you will see "planned obsolescence"  become a thing of the past.  No more buying a refrigerator only to have it break in a couple years.  Back to the days when a fridge would last you 30 years.

Re: Time to stock up on popcorn.

I love the USPS.  They've rarely done me wrong.  My local post office and I have a good working relationship.  I really can't stand it when people send me something and use the free USPS packaging inside their box.  It kinda gets under my skin.

Re: Time to stock up on popcorn.

You're a parrot for legacy media: Trump tariffs from 2016 are still in place precisely because they generate billions in revenue.  It makes sense that the current regime kept them in place.  Oddly, they never mentioned this.

So no popcorn will be going stale.  All this talk about tariffs are legacy media's continued attempt at subversion.  It failed during the election and it will fail now.  The people are keen to their shenanigans.

Reality is hard for both of you to accept.  What I enjoy most is that the GOP pretty much has the POTUS locked up for the next 12-16 years.  There's no way dems have anyone to challenge JD Vance.  So it's years and years of saltiness from the left.  You can't even wait until the man is in office before dumping your hate on the world.

Re: Time to stock up on popcorn.

I have a feeling the era of the cheap Chinese goods is coming to an end.

Personally I look forward to the day we no longer have to compete with the "SpeedPAK" shipping from China.

It's true.  Over the last 10 years, there's been a 25% shift away from globalist policies, so the trend is only going to continue.  It's long been known that globalism is and was a failed experiment.  Trade is good, but only when it's fair and beneficial.  Here in the USA especially, we're gravitating back towards community based economies.

The reality the leftists embellish is legacy media. The chances of forming their own opinions are slim for most lefties. They can't turn it off for a day.

Found it quite amazing the left could get flattened across the board in a election while controlling 90% of the media. Turns out the majority of Americans are not that gullible.

Have not been able to take anything serious the legacy media pushes since the summer of 2020 when in my estimation, they went completely over the cliff. The point of no return.

Legacy media was terrible before that pushing nothing but leftist government propaganda but they reached a point to where they no longer thought about any accountability for their total bu!!**bleep**. Legacy media is a joke and the joke is on the 73 million influenced by trash.

The EU was created (as the Common Market) to allow the inefficient, bureaucratic Europeans to compete with the US. It has taken a long time, but they finally have some regulations which might keep us out.

If we want to blame someone, we can choose those in our government who did not deter the European protectionism. Choose your administrations and time periods.
