Okay somebody purchased a jewelry box for me, but I was late shipping it out because I work a lot. So they changed her mind and they didn't want it anymore so now I had to pay them their refund the whole refund out of my other Bank account even though I still never even received a payment from them so basically I am paying them just to look at my item and then change their mind so basically it's like okay well I'm going to give you $85 just to look at my jewelry box and that's it do I get my refund for that because I've never received a payment in the first place

If I were you, familiarize yourself with your responsibilities as a seller before selling anything else here.
You don't want to disappoint any more buyers -- that hurts all of us sellers -- and this debacle alone lowered your feedback to 75%.

It was sold May 21st, so it's only been a couple weeks.

Since you're a new seller, they can hold the funds for 30 days.

Have A Great Day.

We understand your issue. What you might not 'get' is that your buyer's money was in eBay's hands until released to you.

Back in April, I sold a set of aquarium filter cartridges.  The next day - still within my handling time - the buyer put in a cancellation.  I had to refund them from my money, then 3 or 4 days later, eBay released the buyers payment to me.

You really need to learn the ins and outs of a platform before using it.  There’s a phrase eBay uses to describe what’s going on in your situation.  It’s called Bad Buyer Experience (BBE).  It is something that eBay wants to avoid at all costs, and encourages their sellers to provide that for their buyers.

It’s possible to change the handling time to something that will work with your schedule.  EBay sellers are able to set a handling time anywhere between 1 and 40 days.  EBay takes that time into consideration when they display an estimated delivery date to the buyer.  As long as you ship within your handling time, and the buyer receives it on time, you’re fine.

I’m getting ready to change the handling times on my listings.  It’s becoming difficult for me to ship Friday through Monday, because those are the days I work.  I’m going to change it to 5 days, so if someone buys something on a Thursday evening, I wouldn’t have to ship until Tuesday.

This is all in your control to fix going forward.  You need to deal with the problem that just occurred, and moving forward make sure your handling time is sufficient for your schedule.  Learn from this, and move on.

I work 6 days a week also and 12 hours a day

If you sell on eBay you must honor purchases

I do whatever it takes to ship in time and follow policies

Re-read your 1st sentence. You have a contractual obligation to your customers to follow through in a timely manner ie; shipping which is why eBay most likely contacted you.   If you find that your work schedule or life is taking a lot of your time, take a 'pause' from eBay for now.  All the best.

“This isn’t right.”

In what way do you mean this is not right?

You seem unconcerned about your contractual obligation to ship a paid item to the buyer within 2 days of receipt of payment. Despite controlling the terms of sale, and ostensibly that means selecting your own handling time, ultimately the sale still was not honored.

The buyer fulfilled his commitment to you when he paid in full. In return, it appears you may not have been as fully prepared to  meet your legal responsibility to them.  You may have been unaware that new sellers are subject to payment holds, though it is outlined in the policies you tacitly agreed to meet when you registered to sell here.

It seems to me this outcome could be the result of potentially one of two things: a cavalier attitude towards one’s business responsibilities, or having spread oneself way too thin.

Either way, sorry you lost this sale. It was a nice one.

Suppose for just a minute that the situation was reversed, that you were the buyer instead of the seller and you paid $85 plus shipping and taxes for a jewelry box.  You expected it to be shipped within two days as stated in the listing,  but it wasn't.  You could see where the seller made a label but the item was never shipped.  You are upset because you paid all that money and no item.  What would you do?  Probably exactly what your buyer did, patiently wait and then file an Item Not Received claim and leave a negative feedback.  And you think that's not right?

You said you work 10 hours a day, six days a week so it is hard for you to do other things.  You should have thought about that before you listed things to sell.   You don't get to make your own rules; you have to follow eBay's rules, to keep eBay a happy place for buyers to buy things.    Believe it or not, when you pull a stunt like you did, it reflects badly on all sellers.

Do you think you are the only seller to work long hours at a day job?  Not by a long shot.  Many sellers work another or two or three outside jobs, have major family situations such as taking care of a sick or elderly relative, and a multitude of other things or obligations that take up most of their day but they still make it a point to get everything done with selling on eBay because that is also one of their obligations.

Agreed.  For me, that’s made them BBL bound.
