This is the new 'add photo' icon in messages? THIS?

IMG_5255.JPG

Needed to sent photos back in message ... ONLY after switching browser, trying the email copy, clearing cache, contemplating adding the photos to an active listing so they can see them .... as a 'hail larry' I clicked on the icon. Nothing happened. Went away, came back a few minutes later and the loader had loaded.

Never in a million years would I ever think this was the 'add photo' icon. What is it suppose to represent? Looks like paper being stacked to me. Now if I remember correctly ... been so long since I last saw it, the old 'add photo' button said ADD PHOTO.

eBay is merely ensuring consistency in confusion across the platform.

Nothing to worry about.

eBay seller since 1999. This is a posting ID.

It's supposed to look like a photograph of a mountain and a sun. It's a universal icon for photos - for years - I'm surprised it's new to anybody. You'll typically see either that or a camera or occasionally the same mountain image in a frame like a polaroid.

"... supposed to look like a photograph of a mountain and a sun" - OK, now that it's been pointed out, I can see that in a picasso sort of way.

"It's a universal icon for photos" - That's most likely true on those 'eat soap pods, hock makeup and/or choke yourself' sites but we don't use those places. On the three sites we do use and upload photos, the upload photo icon is a paper clip - email service, words - ebay or a plain old camera - here.

The mountain/sun icon is indeed a universal icon for a photo. Try Googling "image icon" (with no other search restrictions) and you will get back a boatload of them.

A paper clip icon represents an attachment, not a photo. You can attach an image file, yes, but usually it represents a variety of file types that can be uploaded. Like the search above, if you Google "attachment icon" you will be shown a boatload of paper clips.

At least, I'm not the only person in the world who is "icon challenged"..........I sure appreciate those sites who have "words" show up if you hover over the icon..........

That icon is also similar to the landscape icon in many camera settings. 😂

Leave it to eBay to not just make it a camera icon and/or with the text "ADD PHOTO" underneath the icon.

Again I believe you - but again, no one here uses any of those places, especially facekindle and amazon.

What? 😂

Changes are made for the majority, not the minority.

I'm pretty sure the majority do use many of those and are very familiar with the icons.

I can't imagine it would make sense to make changes based on the outliers.

My point was that this appears to be a widespread UI standard used in many very common applications.

eBay is not going to avoid using a widespread UI standard that is used in many very common applications simply because one eBay user does not happen to use any of those very common applications.

P.S. you do use one of the places that also shares that widespread UI standard - eBay 🙄.

The exact same icon is and has been used on the create listing page to add photos for some time now..

EDIT: oops apparently there actually a little plus on the icon in the lister, otherwise the same.

'you do use one of the places that also shares that widespread UI standard - eBay'

We are both correct - opened a resume draft and it has that image - above the word 'add' in the middle of the photo and video field. Truth be told, I never really noticed the image, that's why I had to check. I've been clicking on the 'add' not the image.

And other then ebay, google and email none of us here at the real store do much other internet stuff.

Although wrong, as are MOST websites, phones, social media, windows etc. that use things like '3 dots' or '3 dashes' instead of words, it is basically infuriating when anything is changed.

Why all these type places assume everyone is 16 years old and has been using social, electronic media since we were 7- is beyond me.

But, I guess when things change it's just the new....

That reminds me, Google's Gmail also uses the "mountain and sun" icon for photo uploads.
