So now with the Seller Update, ebay is doing away with the Trending Rate and replacing it with a Suggested Rate, correct?
This means not only does ebay not want you to know the calculated trending (overall average) rate is for your listing type, but ebay is now going to TELL YOU what rate you should be using. They don't want to give us the info and think for ourselves to formulate our own rate, but rather just do what ebay tells us to do... regardless if our thinking may not be aligned with ebay's.
Basically... let ebay run your store for you. Every update, we lose more and more control of our own stores.
PS. With this power, ebay can easily lie and intentionally inflate the Promoted Listing ad rates.

Oh, you mean what rate ebay wants sellers to pay? 😎

There is a certain irony in eBay pretending they know what is best when they can barely run their own site.

I just noticed that this Suggested Ad rate is already implemented when I was in a listing revision page. And surprise surprise, my current ad rate is below the Suggested Rate. I recall for that listing that my rate was above the Trending Rate.

What’s funny is how the rate for nearly every item I sell is 9%.

Maybe that's just the minimum threshold that ebay expected to profit off of the Promoted Listings Program. I'd be totally surprised to see this Suggested Rate to ever decrease.

No one is forcing you to use their suggested rate, so use the rate that you feel comfortable using.
Suggested ad rates are more tailored to your particular sales.
New suggested ad rates when you create your Promoted Listings campaigns
We’re now providing you with suggested ad rates when you create Promoted Listings campaigns. The suggested ad rate replaces the trending rate and is a personalized recommendation based on historical and predictive data. While the trending rate was designed to give you a sense of how other sellers were setting their ad rates for similar items, the suggested ad rate can help you find your optimal ad rate for each item and achieve a balance between performance and cost.

I recently revised a number of my existing listings. In most cases, the suggested rate was lower than my current rate, so I lowered it. But of course, the word "suggested" means just that...it's a suggestion, not a requirement. If you choose to treat it as a requirement, that's your choice. I will treat it as a suggestion, same way I treated the trending rate.

These changes were already in place on 9-4-2020. You no longer can see what the actual average other sellers are using and are expected to take eBay's suggested rate as fair and accurate. To set the same rate for all of your items you have to jump through hoops on each campaign. This is not a time saving convenient feature as it is billed by eBay. You have to go to change strategy then select to apply the same rate to all listings then type in the rate. Then for the next campaign you have to do the same, if like me you break your campaign down by store category it is way to repetitive especially after you already determined what you want to set as your ad rate.

Sorry if I was being unclear. I never said it was required. If it actually was required, it would defeat the whole purpose of PL because everyone would level out in exposure.
It’s rather eBay trying to not let sellers think for themselves. It’s kinda like how ebay used to (or do they still) tell sellers that they should start auction prices at 99 cents.

Mine are all 9% too, like the other poster mentioned & I've been seeing it for a few days. The thing that has always bothered me with PL's (and I have found it to be VERY useful for me) is that you don't know what you're buying. I may well be willing to pay 9% of 20% if there was some indication of what it is that you're paying for & how much of the extra promotion you're getting, for what rates.
I have a real aversion to paying for things when I'm not being told what I'm buying. They never gave any specifics when the program was rolled out & they still don't. And this is coming from someone who's had great success with the program.

Yea all of the ones I’ve seen are 9% except one on another account. The suggested rate was a whopping 15%.

I have never promoted a listing in my life.
But I read this board daily, and I will note that very few sellers have posted here to say that they thought eBay's "trending rates" were particularly believable 🙂

Out of the group of listings for each of my campaigns the suggested add rate was way higher then the suggested ad rate for all but 1 or 2 items. I am referring to the suggested ad rate on the far right side. Each item also gets its own suggested add rate and scrolling through the individual suggested add rates was a little more informative when making my decision. I also figured eBay may be making it look like I should be using a higher rate than was needed. I started low and watched the campaigns section for a few days. They seamed to be getting impressions right away and then the clicks started coming in. So clearly I was getting placement from the impressions and buyers viewing my items from the clicks. This was on the 5th so This weekend I would expect some sales to come through as people get their next check.
If I had not gotten decent movement on the impressions or clicks I would have gone back and reviewed each campaign and the add rate.
