Re: Store Search Bar Not Functioning

I went to your store and typed in star wars and 91 listings came up.  The same amount of listings came up when I did the search in 'view listings'.  What sort of problem are you seeing?

Re: Store Search Bar Not Functioning

How do I get to my store?

I used to click on that little store icon ... but it's not there anymore.    😉

(i'm being sarcastic)

Like @pjcdn2005 my store search in working fine.

Re: Store Search Bar Not Functioning

If a search that has worked well previously suddenly starts behaving badly, often the problem has something to do with a faulty keyword substitution or an inappropriate automatic category navigation issue.

You can bypass many of these sorts of issues by putting one of your keywords in quotes. This forces eBay to bypass the "smart search" features and to search for the literal keywords without any substitution or category switching. You may have to manually specify your category once again.

Use the little "Feedback?" icon in the lower right corner of your "see other items" search results page, or from your store page (use the "see all" link at the bottom of the store front page first) to provide feedback  to eBay's developers about the search.

What does "not functioning" mean?

You can't type in the search box?

When you search, it does nothing?

When you search, it returns the wrong items?

Is this in the desktop application or the phone app?

Yes. I do. No items are found in the bar

Re: Store Search Bar Not Functioning

I used to be able to click on my FB score, then click on see iteems for sale, then select sold only and search the solds. NOW I do that and it just brings up all the items for sale, so I have to go back and click the sold only on the LH side.

I also hate not having the userID & FB and link to messages on the Overview page.

Re: Store Search Bar Not Functioning

I have noticed the Search bar in the store performs differently from the Search bar for the entire site.

For instance, I was wanting to look at some F150 radios we had listed, in order to copy one for a new listing. Despite the fact we actually have at least 11 F150 results currently, a search for 'F150' in our store yielded "0 results", while a search for 'F150' site-wide yields "2,700,000+ results". So they'll overwhelm you with results if you use only one search term on the site... yet pretend like you have no matching listings if you do the same search in your store... Now, granted, someone actually looking for an F150 radio in the store will probably (but not always) use 'F150 radio' as their search terms, which does yield results (11). So they'll say it's to force people to do more specific searches, I'm sure.

But why have a different input requirement for the two search bars?? The fact there will obviously be far less listings in a store than on the entire eBay site should make the idea of presenting "too many" results in a store search preposterous... (Because, if that's their reasoning, they should be presenting "0 results" for single key-word searches on the site, where the results WILL be overwhelming and largely irrelevant.)

Is it possible eBay is doing it to coax people into doing a search site-wide, instead of in an individual store? Or is it just a bug? Or an oversight?

It is pretty clearly a bug; there are many examples of keyword searches that should (and until very recently did) find results, that are suddenly now returning zero results in a category and then defaulting to "all categories" and still not showing all results. This includes zero results in many of the categories actually displayed on the left side of the search results page, which ordinarily would indicate results are to be found in those categories, which results can now only be seen by bypassing the "smart" search features.

Re: Store Search Bar Not Functioning

This was happening to us last week. For a little while it was even worse and search on the ENTIRE eBay site was not working.

They've been having problems with this. I wouldn't stress about it too much, it's not just you!

@eburtonlab

Are the bugs you're referring to with eBay's site-wide search? Or a store search? Or both?

I was focused on the store results (compared to the site-wide results) because another poster (@partfinds ) mentioned seeing 0 results in his store search. I wondered if, perhaps, he was doing a single keyword search, since I recently noticed that issue as well. The OP too, since he didn't offer a lot of details on what, exactly, was "not functioning"...

The same bug is behind both problems. That bug can cause a keyword search in a store or category to return zero results even when results should be found, and then the search is automatically widened outside the original store or category. Both problems can be overcome by putting a search keyword in quotes to bypass the "smart" search feature and force a literal keyword search without substitution or category changes.
