Saw a bunch of old threads of people complaining they are being charged 14% on TAX of transaction. Which is beyond ridiculous. That was a year ago...how has this not been fixed yet? This is hundreds of dollars of theft on expensive items. Beyound **bleep**!
Especially absurd since sales tax goes by buyer state, if my state is 6% and say NY is 10% i am still paying 14% fees on total tax which isnt even MY STATE TAX RATE!!!

Careful now!

So you would rather not sell something for $200.00 because eBay takes a couple of dollars from the sale to remit the taxes to the states, counties, cities, and countless other jurisdictions that collect sales taxes.
Just add $3.00 to the price of your item and problem solved.
Easy peesey.

And you have to request the sales tax numbers in advance of selling and if you have a great quarter but didn't prepay you get a fine.
Its illegal to collect a sales tax you don't have permission to collect. You can 't just set up pop-up storecollect sales tax and send it (I'm sure they'll take it, then they'll fine you).
Sales Taxes are an artifact. They need to be replaced by e-transmission taxes, e.g., taxes on texts, uploaded videos and stock trades. That will aloow the state total surveillance and data harvesting, and get them out of the physical realm so real business can get moving without this never ending tax suck.

The sales tax is based on the buyer's county. How can ebay give you an estimate of the shipping fees if they do not who will buy your item? You can guess. Sales tax is in the range of 7 to 10% if you really need to see a number.

I think its 46 states now.

If you want the tax to go to YOUR state, just buy stuff online.

They already tax stock trades. When I buy a stock and sell it for a profit I pay short term or long term capital gains tax.

EBAY IS CHARGING YOU FOR YOUR TAX HANDELING

There is nothing to fix. eBay charges a fee that is a percentage of the entire amount of the transaction, including shipping and sales tax.
Credit card processors have been doing the same thing to retail stores for 50 years.

Again, there is nothing to fix. The state sales tax is based on the buyer's state, not yours.
That is how sales tax has worked for 50 years as well.

It’s been almost 4 years now and eBay hasn’t even fixed the problem where a lot less buyers are buying from me than before. I think they’ll fix your issue once they fix mine.

Thanks for the warning!

Have to ask: In your first sentence, are you maybe confusing Federal income taxes with state sales taxes? Does your state require you to "prepay" state sales taxes? How would that work and in what state?

Thank you. Gave up keeping track about 10 states ago, whenever that was.

Yeah, that particular fix is probably just around the corner.

Those taxes are NOT sales tax they are income taxes.
