Something needs to be done ASAP about unfair service metrics - Contradictory messaging

I just want to make sure I understand correctly.

I have an 11% return rate according to the service metrics.

Thats 20 returns.

When I go through those 20, 13 were resolved as NO SELLER FAULT, or BUYER MISCONDUCT found!

the other 7 I couldnt determine the nature of the return so I went through the return process.

How in the world are the 13 that even ebay agrees were not my fault counted against me putting me into the very high category?!

I reached out to ebay support, and they had the gall to tell me those metrics are fair? My peers are getting 2% returns on my category which is used computers? Theres no way in hell thats true especially if they are counting fraudulent returns!!!!

Walmart gets 30% returns

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/07/wal-mart-promises-30-second-returns-in-stores-where-amazon-cant.html....

Why isn't more being said about this unfair system?

But the bigger kicker is the CS told me seller performance and service metrics arent the same

I showed him that seller metrics is litterally in a tab marked as performance and he ended the chat!!!

In theory, but eBay's peer matching system is a black box that we can't see into, and often times is clearly not matching well and produces impossible standards.  I don't sell enough used computers or computer equipment anymore to say for sure, but my strong bet is the O/P who says they sell used computers (I haven't checked their listings) is being compared to peers including those who sell used computer parts, or perhaps used electronic parts.  If that's the case, a seller who sells a used computer is going to be expected to have a much higher INAD rate than a seller who is selling a used memory module.

He's just going to get more false INADs from people saying things like I thought this would be faster, when they just didn't understand the specs and thought it might be a fast gaming computer.

When Amazon and Walmart get like 20-30% return rates on general merchandise, there's no way a used computer seller is going to be at 2.6%.  Unless they're comparing against an incorrect peer group, or are comparing him to sellers who sold 2 used computers in a period and had a 0% return, bringing the average down without weighting it.

@theteamsetguy

Since you don’t offer returns savvy buyers have figured a way around your NO RETURNS policy by opening INAD return cases under eBay’s MBG policy for buyers.

Can't be repeated too often.

Another reason why No Returns is a poor policy choice.

Since you do accept returns and you do refund on return, just drop the No Returns policy since it does not seem to be helpful.

@michigancolor ,

I have a hard time believing that Walmart and Amazon 20 to 30 percent of their items returned. As a long time shareholder of Target I've read in one of their annual reports that their overall return rate is about 10% with clothing making up most of it. This means general merchandise is less than 10%. You might be right about Walmart and Amazon but based on Target's numbers I not sure I buy it.

If you read Target's just released quarterly report their biggest problem now is the big increase in shrink. Brian Cornell said they were expecting shrink (mainly shoplifting and employee theft) to increase by 500 million next year.
