Sold another local pickup only item and local buyer paid with Paypal.

This will be the third time I've sold this bumper: https://www.ebay.com/itm/152966975425?ViewItem=&item=152966975425&ppid=PPX000600&cnac=US&rsta=en_US(... here on Ebay over the last 2 years. The first two times they also paid with Paypal but were long distance and never came to pick up, so basically I have nothing in the part right now. This last buyer is local but paid with Paypal even though I put in the listing that Paypal is among my accepted payment options except for local pickup. So do I refund the Paypal payment now and tell him cash on pick up? Wait until he contacts me for pick up arraingments and then tell him?

Yes, we have discussed before that eBay reps advised you to violate written policy.  If it's working for you, it's ok by me, but it is still specifically not allowed.

It doesn't make since to  take  any online payments  on  a Local  Pick up  !  .  In  item  listing  payments section  you can  mark pay  on pickup  . also  There  is no  Violation  of  policy  since  you don't  have to take  Online    payments in  ebay  motors  for  local pickup option.

Hi @carlmarxx, eBay Motors has different payment policies and is not the topic being discussed on this thread. It does make sense to take online payments when you consider the buyer's position - paying electronically ensures they are eligible for protection if needed. The option to pay upon pickup is available if the seller would like to offer it and the buyer chooses it, but an electronic payment method must still be available and a seller cannot discourage a buyer from using this option if they would like.

@AnonymousIs it acceptable to put best offer on a local pickup listing and state in the listing that you are more amenable to offers if cash payment is used? That's not discouraging electronic payment, but it is offering savings to the buyer if they are comfortable with cash payment.

I don't believe that you are allowed to solicit cash payments.

Hi @lovtaco0, it is acceptable to indicate your preference for cash payment, you just aren't allowed to discourage electronic payments. Comments such as, "I will cancel a PayPal payment for local pickup," is not acceptable, but "Cash is preferred for local pickup and may factor into my consideration of a Best Offer" would be fine, as it is along the same lines as "I offer combined shipments and Best Offers for multiple items are encouraged" slight_smile

Since when On a local  Pickup does a buyer need  any  protection with a online payment  ,since Buyer  is going to have the goods  right in front of them in their hands and Looking it over first before making the payment  !  Instead  of  having it shipped  which has much higher risk !  .     Cash payments have always been the norm for local  pickup  since Ebay has been around    and removes  any  risk of buyer fraud  issues  , SNADS   And No Buyers Remorse !

Trinton  ;  We are talking about local  buyer pickup,  where Buyer has far more control by paying  with cash ! Fact is they are going to have their hands on goods  looking   over  item they are going buy.  This means No chance of  buyer fraud ,  Or Snads or remorse issue .  Also no returns for local pickup .      I have no Need for  Online  payments   for a local pickup  by my buyers .

Trinton  I have  2 id's  And  I have been a ebay member for 20 years ! And have  a lot more experience  on this site.    Back in 2003  ebay decided  on  buying  Paypal and  became  the own in start of 2004  !  in 2008  ebay  pushed  online  payment 's   ,However  Ebay  never  forced  it  on  pay  on local pickup !   Not  one seller  Update   ever said  you had to take Online payments on local pickup.

If the buyer went to pick up the item and found it was not described accurately, they would be protected in a return request.

That's good, however it is in direct contradiction to the written policy

Not Covered:

Local pickup items that were not collected by, or on behalf of, the buyer

Hilariously, that wording recently replaced wording that said exactly the opposite: that there's not protection for items that WERE picked up by the buyer.  Maybe eBay should just eliminate all the wording on the policy pages and just say:  See Trinton.   grimacing

It says local pickup is not covered if the item is NOT picked up by the buyer. If the buyer did NOT pick up the item or arrange pickup then they are not covered. They can file an INR or a SNAD but if the buyer did not make arrangements to pick up the item then eBay would rule against them.

Look at the section that says what is covered:

Items collected in person are covered, provided all other requirements are met

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy?id=4210

SNADs are covered with limitations. Trinton previously told us that items that can be inspected at the time of pickup like a bike or a table are not eligible for a SNAD. Something like a washing machine IS eligible for a SNAD IF the seller does not provide means for the buyer to plug in and test the item before bringing it home.

I should clarify the above to say that if the buyer paid in advance with PayPal then goes to pick up the item and upon inspection finds that it is not as described so they don't take it home then they would qualify for buyer protection under a SNAD claim.

Yes, so if the buyer goes to pick it up, finds it's not as described and doesn't take it with him, the written policy says it's not covered.  Trinton's statement says it is.  I presume Trinton is correct, but wouldn't count on an eBay rep to allow the claim unless Trinton was called in.
