So tired of cancellation requests

I've hardly ever had a cancellation request until recently, and now it seems to be every other day.

Usually I haven't shipped yet which is a miracle given eBay's push to ship asap after payment, but the one tonight already shipped this morning.

How long before they start holding these against us as well when (like returns) they encourage them?

Re: So tired of cancellation requests

That's when you encourage the commoners to start using GOOGLE and then they see all the cheaper ones on other locations besides Ebay and then no more sales on ebay if they can get it cheaper elsewhere.  It is funny if I search on Google and find one - then try to locate others on ebay - noticing - where is the one I just saw on Google it's NOT showing up???  THings that make you go hmmmmmmmmm....

Its just ebay gaming the system. Last week I was  searching for a item only 10 shown in search I purchhased it for $75.00 when invoice arrived there were three more linked to the invoice email and they were $35.00 or less. They weren't shown in search just shown in the GOTCHA SUCKER ebay invoice....

thank you!  this is important!

1- what keywords did you search on?

2- did the three more items that displayed after purchase have the same keywords in their titles that you had used for your search?

3- did you go and then test to see what it would take to display those other items on a search?

4- are you willing to share what you were looking for and what keywords you used?

the big problem i have with this is how the search system is so inconsistent with its results.  this is a perfect example of that.

ebay says they are trying to optimize the buyer experience...but as buyers, we are also very frustrated by this search engine.  this is yet another example of that.

i am wondering how the new product-based search will impact this?

Re: So tired of cancellation requests

c.b could go into great detail, but its pointless because if you sell here you agree to the terms and the new update that went into effect yesterday gives ebay card blanche to do as they please...... “Seller fees don’t purchase exclusive rights to item exposure on eBay, whether on a web page, mobile app, or otherwise. We may, in our sole discretion and without consent from, or payment, fee reduction, or other credit to, sellers, display third-party advertisements (including links and references thereto) or other content in any part of our Services.”

yes, i understand that you are complaining about the ill-placed advertising--i feel for you there--and i also know it will not be fixed.  that is indeed sad.

however...if ebay search were to display all options BEFORE buying, the sucker ads would not be as harmful--and that kind of problem can be fixed .  but, ebay needs to see actual examples in order to know the inconsistencies are real.  if you honestly want this fixed, we need to present hard evidence.  they've fixed things for me in the past when i could show them specifics.   yes, i know there are other things that don't get fixed, but all you have to do is share a few pieces of info, and i am willing to do the work of beating on the doors.

Re: So tired of cancellation requests

@bubbleman2010

You and me go back centuries here lol. You helped me out with great advice on these boards (quite a few times when I decided to not just lurk) pre-2008. My question: What happened with:  "your bid/BIN/purchase is a binding contract...".

Lots of sellers had that blurb in their listings way back then as I did when we were allowed to do TOS.  Which eBay had them removed. Or am I just the really old school and haven't paid attention enough. Plus, I don't understand if they buy from you, pay for it, but AFTER they pay they are able to renig with a cancel because eBay shows them after payment cheaper products?

Sorry am just now getting back into really selling since retired Nov 2017. Will no longer a weekend seller. AND I thought buyers back then had limitations on how many they can cancel? Again, sorry. Am trying to get my eggs in a row to continue selling more on here. Thanks as usual, RR.

Re: So tired of cancellation requests

ab as the buyer pool keeps shrinking on ebay ebays going to do whatever it takes trying to increase revenues. Buyer can buy from you and change their minds 100s of times turn the table and as a seller you change your mind more than three times in a year you'll be shown the door...

Re: So tired of cancellation requests

c.b. ebay has known about the GOTCHA SUCKER emails being sent out they designed them and when this was debated with them more than 6 months ago posters were told it wasn't going to change. Go in and purchase a item wait for the invoice look at the cheaper items that are links within the message. Now do you cancel your original purchase or bite the bullet pay for the one you purchased and forget about the ones 30% or more less than the one you purchased? Most folks cancel or wait until it arrives and return as a SNAD its a huge problem taking place on ebay, but they refuse to admit it...

yes, i said that i understood... and how i feel for you (and others who suffer from this)...and that i know ebay is not going to fix the ads.  but, i also said that SOME things can be fixed--such as the search not showing all options BEFORE purchase and ads hit.  so, if you are not going to read and hear my words, and reply to what i actually said... then nothing can be done.  that is too bad, but you are making that choice.

Re: So tired of cancellation requests

IMHO this is NOT so smart on eBays part. Ok so I buy something for $50.00 and then they turn around and show me the same thing for $25.00 after the sale. So, how does this effect eBay? Obiously they lose 50% of the FVF that they would have received on the first sale. so, they are losing money doing this.

eBay really needs to figure out how many of an item I am going to buy and how often...

Chances are that somethings I buy I am only going to buy one of, so they don't need to show me that item for at least 30 days after the return window is closed. Other things I buy and use I might buy often. So those items can be displayed more often.

Then of course eBay thinks they know what I want and show me things that I have used eBay to research to list an item. I get so many ads for things I am just researching. They are not things I am buying or want to buy.

It is still going to be hard for eBay to get a catalog with Sellers because there is no standard way to list. I can tell You a good example in the jewelry classification. I get so many bad hits with GOLD for instance. There is no standard. Many Sellers cheat the system by having The word Gold in their listing title... to me it should then be listed as "gold tone", gp or "Gold plate", GF or gold filled, or 14 KT, 10 KT, 9KT.  etc. I have seen the word GOLD many times and when you look at item specifics it is gold tone over alloy. This turns buyers OFF. They just want and item to be described "properly", shipped quickly, and have the item they thought was coming in the condition that is is listed as being.

No one wants to spend hours looking at "stuff like the "OLD EBAY" The way search is now I have to plod through so many listings just to find what I want. eBay is worried about getting things into a catlogue...I'd like to see more standarization of listing. Clothing is another example. so many Sellers only have the size listed in the description not in the title. Why? the most important reason I don't buy clothing here is because it is just too hard to drill down to what I really want.

Re: So tired of cancellation requests

I rarely buy here and when I do sell, I don't ever see any invoice that eBay sends to the buyer. Last night as a test I bought a pocket watch and paid right away. On the sale confirmed notice from eBay at the bottom: "To complement your purchase..." with other watches listed much cheaper. Then on the shipped & on its way (with track number)" notice from eBay same info at bottom to buy cheaper.

Why oh why would I want to buy another watch to "complement" the one I just bought? If anything, like Home Depot does, there should be other items referenced like maybe a carrying case, a chain, something that complements my original purchase, not items to "replace" said purchase. They need to get rid of this "complement" thing. Now I understand what other sellers are talking about. And why put that same cheaper info in the item has shipped notice? Particularly if it already shipped, it shipped and no cancellations should be allowed.

Re: So tired of cancellation requests

A couple weeks ago it was rampant with me as well. Now I print immediately and drop in the box up the street. I haven’t had any issues once they received the item. I was told by one buyer that eBay showed them a lower price and if I wasn’t able to meet it they’d like a refund. I had already dropped it so I couldn’t cancel

Re: So tired of cancellation requests

And another cancellation apparently within minutes of hitting the BIN button.

Maybe if it cost the BUYER .30 instead of the seller, they'd tbe a tad more careful?
