I've seen this many times over the years and just am curious to know something about a selling practice that I see often. As one example the seller "second.sale" has a few cds around $300 and it looks like they've sold a number of similar value items at these prices. What is going on here? Are there people that just don't care, is there a kickback, refund, or something I'm missing?

That looks like a place holding listing.

It does, but they’ve sold 4 and when you check their sold listings there are numerous items similarly priced that sold. There are many sellers that have the same thing going on, though I’ve noticed often they are 100,000+ item Sellers. If that’s the case the person had to commit to buy then ask for an invoice or pay then ask for a refund. It could Possibly be a way to get money off a credit card, but it’s been something I’ve wondered about for some time. Thanks for replying.

If you check the actual selling prices in that listing by clicking on the number sold, the past sales were not quite at that high a price (click to enlarge):

General reply. As was said in other post, place holder for temporarily out of stock item. If someone buys at that price the seller would have to find one to ship. I have seen this more then a few times.

Goodness ,, that's an expensive cd . As someone else noted it's probably just a placeholder item. When I first began shopping on e bay I seen an old ugly used up pair of cheap flip flop sandals with a 300 dollar price tag . Curiosity got the best of me [ much younger then] and I reached out to the seller about the high price . They replied ''If you have to ask you'd never understand '' unquote . Well ,, I ''understand'' now but I'm sure it's not for the same reason as this expensive cd. lol -Tulips
