Item was electronics receiver. The chart suggest a 9% fee. Unit sold for $285 plus $50 shipping. Transaction fee should have been $30.15 according to my calculations ($285+50) = $335; 9% of that is $30.15. I was actually charged $48.38.
Can someone explain how this was calculated please?

Are you running Promoted Listings?

If it were sold to a state that charges sales tax on marketplace purchases (highly likely), the total would have been $335+23.45 (estimating a 7% sales tax).
However, to get an exact breakdown, just go to the order and see the details.
Example:

Fees are based on total sale (purchase price + shipping + sales tax) plus 30 cent handling charge. If you go to Order, All Orders (click on item and it will give you breakdown of fees).

Not sure which chart you looked at that suggests a 9% fee. It might be a long-outdated Final Value Fee (FVF) percentage, from back when PayPal was part of the process and also took a small percentage as fees.
Back in February of 2023, eBay's FVF percentages were raised to 13.25% for most categories including the one in which you listed your Vintage Pioneer SA-6700 Amplifier. In addition, eBay charges a 40 cents per-order fee.
The percentage portion of the Final Value Fee is applied to the total amount paid by the buyer.
That total amount includes the price of the item + shipping + sales tax.
The Math:
You say your total selling fees were $48.38. Subtract 40 cents, and the percentage portion of the fees was $47.98.
$47.98 divided by 0.1325 = $362.11. This means your buyer [probably] paid a total of $362.11.
Using the info in your post, that $362.11 total includes the price of the amplifier, $285, plus shipping for $50, plus sales tax in the amount of $27.11. (Works out to a 9.5% sales tax)
$285 + 50 + 27.11 = $362.11.
These numbers do not include any Ad Fees which apply if/when you choose Promoted Listings.
Hope this helps.

As others suggested, you can see the breakdown for the fees, which may appear higher than expected. It will be higher if you promoted the listing, but also you will see the shipping cost in there as well. That's an expense, rather than a fee, and is offset by your charging the customer for shipping. EBay does charge a fee for creating the label with them tho.

What do you mean by that? The shipping cost is added to the price and tax and there is a fvf fee on that total...........but there is not a specific fee for "creating a label"...........

As noted in the other post, the "chart" that you consulted was incorrect; the final value fee in most categories, including the one you used, is 13.25%. The last time that general final value fee for non-stores was 9% was in 2013. You can see the details about final value fee rates here:

You just confirmed what I said. You ARE paying a fee to use their service. It's not broken out as a line item. It's pretty much hidden. You are paying 13.25% on that postage collected.

The final value fee is based on whatever the buyer pays to the seller for shipping and handling. It is not affected by where the seller purchases the postage (nor by how much they pay for it). It is not accurate to state, "EBay does charge a fee for creating the label with them".

You just worded it really weird. Yes, it's part of the services eBay is paid for, but we pay a single FVF fee that covers that. Not a fee for "printing the shipping label". Edit: Importantly, you pay the fees whether you print through eBay or not. That confirms there is no actual fee for printing a label through eBay.
