What's a Seller to do ? I recently Sold a Motorcycle Helmet to a Customer in Idaho. I'm based in Las Vegas. I ship out almost immediately Signature Delivery because the Buyer lives in an Apartment Complex and he has low feedback. I get a rambling panic message from the buyer that it's my fault i shipped it the wrong way.
Like Dear Lord what Do you mean i shipped it the wrong way ? There's only one way to ship a package. Immediately i see the RED ❗️ ALERT and the Buyer hits the Button 🚨 Item not Received.
Well wait a darn second let me check Fedex.... Tracking Number shows 3 Exceptions Attempted Delivery, Attempted Delivery, Attempted Delivery. Item is now on hold at Fedex.
I inform the child Look Sun your Box is at Fedex hurry up and take your Government issued ID and run over there and get your Helmut. So he did and Signed for it and got his precious Helmut. & Item now shows Delivered on Ebay Status with Signature Delivery and I call Ebay.
Hello Ebay CS, Hello, please Remove the Payment Hold you placed as the Item shows Delivered in your System. What sounded like a Weasel or Meece answered back NO YOUR FUNDS ON HOLD 5 DAYS AND IF COMPUTER GLITCH MONEY OURS. YOU MUST NEED MONEY BAD YOU HURTING NEED MONEY ??? I DON'T NEED MONEY I'M DOING JUST FINE THANK YOU, ALL I WANT TO DO IS CONDUCT BUSINESS.
WHAT IN THE WORLD HAS HAPPENED TO EBAY ? PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME - I DON'T NEED MONEY I'M DOING JUST FINE THANK YOU, ALL I WANT TO DO IS CONDUCT BUSINESS.

And with eBay's move from human intervention to artificial intelligence, I suspect we will be seeing a lot more of what you describe above.
I wonder how much money went straight down the drain on the artificial idiocy. I also wonder what bill of goods they were sold that convinced them that it was the answer to all of their problems (which was a lie), and if there were/are any close connections between the one who sold it to them, and say people with an "O" (for officer) at the end of the letters representing their job titles at eBay. Just wondering.

I'm no expert on these matters, but I gather, merely from reading the transcripts of the comments of certain eBay execs who talk about "magical" experiences here, that a fairly puerile group -- who have grown up on the internet and e-commerce and like computers, but who lack the real world experience and insight into human behavior that usually come with age and working with real human beings, and do not understand that they are infantalizing sellers with their nonsensical propaganda -- is in charge.

The helmet was $200 and eBay policy did not require a signature. Many people who work 9-5 jobs cannot be available at home to sign for a package. And it can be difficult or impossible for some to travel to FedEx to collect it.

You minimized potential risk of possble financial loss
You buyer can elect to waive signature required on delivery at their risk
Internet buying may not be the most convenient option for all buyers, understandly some buyers may find it better & for various reasons, to purchase at b&m stores

Yes I live in a rural area and it's a pain when I have to sign for something from Fedx or UPS. It's a hike just to get to my front door from the front gate, then there's the dogs. They are super friendly but I understand why delivery people don't want to deal with them. It means I have to walk up to the front gate and sit in a chair there and wait.
Our USPS mailman knows just to leave packages in that same chair. I've never had a package stolen living here (you can't see the chair from the hwy.)
If it says anything but sent USPS I contact the seller and kindly request USPS delivery and have had only one not be willing to change delivery method. The mailman knows if he honks for a signature I'll walk up to get it. We're retired and usually home. If he honks and doesn't see me within a minute or two he just takes it back to the office and leaves a slip in my mailbox. The local post office is 5 minutes away vs 45 minutes to get to other facilities. At the post office they see me coming and usually have the package and slip to sign sitting on the counter when I walk in.

The closest FedEx location is an hour drive away.
If I realize a seller shipped an order worth less than $750 with signature confirmation without having it specified in the listing or notifying me prior, I’ll sure as heck tell the seller they shipped the wrong way.
Im not a scammer but I also am not home when FedEx comes by and if I’m paying for delivery to my house, that better not involve a two hour round trip to the FedEx depot, son.

You simply should not ship anything 'signature' required unless it's over $750, and then send a message letting the buyer know. Biggest reasons are;
a.) buyers don't read descriptions so would almost never see whatever you state regarding 'signature'
b.) most people work during delivery hours and to 'be home' or 'make arrangements' to be home when 99% of deliveries are just 'made' without signature.

I am a resident manager of a medium sized apt complex.
I tell ALL my people when we sign the original lease that it would be smart for them to have ALL packages delivered to the "Leasing Office". They can pick it up any time that way, and it will actually BE THERE.
"Don't put your apartment number in that field, put my office number there."

An actual eBay employee actually replied to you (and I quote): ". . . AND IF COMPUTER GLITCH MONEY OURS. YOU MUST NEED MONEY BAD . . ." Can we see the actual message?

That's so mild what the Ebay CS Rep told me, I've been told much worse. When i first called I initially got in contact with an American fellow and everything is Perfect. He spoke concisely and to the point. He took my information and saw what actions needed to be performed to correct everything but he's unauthorized to do so and had to transfer over to a higher level representative. This is where everything goes sour, they transfer me over to the Wee Disney people. Those Charlie & The Chocolate Factory Oompa Loompas.

IMO Shipping FEDEX Ground is an unreliable way to ship.
In many areas of the country, the independent contractors FEDEX uses will never ring a doorbell or make any attempt to deliver a package, they just leave slips telling you to pick up. And if you go to pick up the package, it is often not at the FEDEX office.
I stopped buying from many large companies who use FEDEX Ground because the quality of service is poor, and the hassle is great.
Everyone who ships knows that the only reason to use FEDEX Ground is price.

5 % monthly interest rate is "huge"( more than 60%+ per annum - get .01% on a pass book/Christmas Savings like account at a S & L
You could have opened a check book account for your eBay sales activities many are no charge - like my bank does. This would help you separate your eBay business from your household $$. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies

How does one get a signature at home when the kids are in school/off to college etc and both parents are working and stuck in a traffic jams to and from work??? I would think the seller would need to check with the buyer if it is OK to send w/Signature Required we get stuff with Sig Required but the delivery person says "don't worry about it" and delivers any way. FedEx does this every month for a certain high dollar med at our home
