What's a Seller to do ? I recently Sold a Motorcycle Helmet to a Customer in Idaho. I'm based in Las Vegas. I ship out almost immediately Signature Delivery because the Buyer lives in an Apartment Complex and he has low feedback. I get a rambling panic message from the buyer that it's my fault i shipped it the wrong way.
Like Dear Lord what Do you mean i shipped it the wrong way ? There's only one way to ship a package. Immediately i see the RED ❗️ ALERT and the Buyer hits the Button 🚨 Item not Received.
Well wait a darn second let me check Fedex.... Tracking Number shows 3 Exceptions Attempted Delivery, Attempted Delivery, Attempted Delivery. Item is now on hold at Fedex.
I inform the child Look Sun your Box is at Fedex hurry up and take your Government issued ID and run over there and get your Helmut. So he did and Signed for it and got his precious Helmut. & Item now shows Delivered on Ebay Status with Signature Delivery and I call Ebay.
Hello Ebay CS, Hello, please Remove the Payment Hold you placed as the Item shows Delivered in your System. What sounded like a Weasel or Meece answered back NO YOUR FUNDS ON HOLD 5 DAYS AND IF COMPUTER GLITCH MONEY OURS. YOU MUST NEED MONEY BAD YOU HURTING NEED MONEY ??? I DON'T NEED MONEY I'M DOING JUST FINE THANK YOU, ALL I WANT TO DO IS CONDUCT BUSINESS.
WHAT IN THE WORLD HAS HAPPENED TO EBAY ? PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME - I DON'T NEED MONEY I'M DOING JUST FINE THANK YOU, ALL I WANT TO DO IS CONDUCT BUSINESS.

I meant to say 5.0% APY not monthly, lol. Anyway i separate all my ebay proceeds into a checking account, then i transfer it into a Vault just in case i get burned on a high value item. This way Ebay can`t touch my funds ever any more. for never

4 Score and 70 years ago There was a time in this Country where the Shopkeeper was always right, there was No Return Policy because nobody ever returned anything, they needed it too badly. No matter what it was someone was in need, even if they bought a shovel that was broken they'd buy it and attach a new piece of wood on it. Everything had a purpose, Everything was used to it's full extent. Today what we have is liars, skallywags, and thieves but we have Progressed, Progressed to Progressive Insurance that sides with the Rear Ender and not the Innocents. Ladies and Gentleman this is our New Disposable Consumerism Rights, To Buy and throw away the Next Day. We have Progressed so far that we owe the Red Government 30 Trillion Dollars in the name of Progress. Progress is fun, Progress is Cool, Progress is Chic. We should progress to 90 day return windows and let the Customer bring back his Shoes completely Dirty!

Technological "advancement" is a double edged sword.
That's why the Surgeon General not long ago asked for a warning label on social media.
I'm 65 and am fascinated by IT, but I am pretty sure that there is not now and will never be a substitute for common sense. Which for all the world appears in increasingly short supply on this platform.
I reckon that's what happens when you try to appeal to everyone in the name of "Economic Opportunity For All."
In terms of rules and regulations, eBay has managed to construct a labyrinth within a maze and now that AI is getting more involved it's gonna deteriorate further before (a) imploding or (b) convincing eBay shareholders that eBay needs to seriously modify its culture / ethos.
And the coup de grace is this para in the ebay user agreement (brought to my attention by @robbie31415 in this thread) -- which effectively allows eBay to do whatever it wants, its byzantine regulatory compendium notwithstanding. (And I'm ok with that.)
When a buyer or seller issue arises, we may consider the user's performance history and the specific circumstances in applying our policies. We may choose to be more lenient with policy enforcement in an effort to do the right thing for both buyers and sellers. The foregoing does not limit or impair our right to refuse, modify, or terminate all or part of our Services to anyone, or to terminate this agreement with anyone, for any reason at our discretion.

The helmet was $200 and eBay policy did not require a signature. Many people who work 9-5 jobs cannot be available at home to sign for a package. And it can be difficult or impossible for some to travel to FedEx to collect it.
NH _SALES_ IV
buyer can elect to waive signature required on delivery at their risk
This is perhaps one of the most important points made so far... and a fact that I had completely forgotten about (so thanks for raising it).
I reckon that most people come home from work, see the attempted delivery sticker attached to their door, conclude immediately that their item must be picked up at the post office, scream an expletive, and either throw the sticker away or opt to deal with it later, which might not be for several days.
Imagine buying something on eBay, receiving an email that your item has been shipped AND noting that it will require a signature on delivery, and then being given the option of electronically waiving signature before the item has been put on a postal service truck.
(I know, I know, the color of our message traffic balloons is far too important to devote critical resources to helping out sellers.)

Common sense seems to be a dying trait in general. But why? Schools not teaching self reliance or how to think on your own?

I tell ALL my people when we sign the original lease that it would be smart for them to have ALL packages delivered to the "Leasing Office". They can pick it up any time that way, and it will actually BE THERE.
"Don't put your apartment number in that field, put my office number there."
That’s good. It should be that way for safe keeping.

@stainlessenginecovers wrote:You simply should not ship anything 'signature' required unless it's over $750, and then send a message letting the buyer know. Biggest reasons are;
a.) buyers don't read descriptions so would almost never see whatever you state regarding 'signature'
b.) most people work during delivery hours and to 'be home' or 'make arrangements' to be home when 99% of deliveries are just 'made' without signature.
Better yet. If you have a high value item even below that threshold ADD INTO The DESCRIPTION that the parcel will require signature.

Have you ever heard of a debt collector - doesn't look good on your credit scores (all 3) even worse if you default. eBay more than likely will put you account in the trash for eternaty.

Once upon a time Mr. Sam Walton the founder of WalMart would do just that "We should progress to 90 day return windows and let the Customer bring back his Shoes completely Dirty" as late as 1985. That is when my wife worked in Customer Service at a WM in Katy, Texas. And the would refund or exchange as long as WalMart carried that brand and model/style (no receipt required) with no time limit - of course people would take advantage - by lieing a little, cheat a little but be sincere about it.. My Lone Star Lady (aka my bride) actually met Mr. Walton and I shook his hand too - he like to visit stores and customers in his travels. He was en route to MD Anderson in Houston for cancer treatment and passed away in the early 90s.. Our company sold him forklifts for outside work (nursery stuff)

😂you said 1985. Texas will be a Democrat state in 2024. I'm sure Sam Walton had good intensions but if he saw Todays walmart he'd Roll in his grave.
08-25-2024 02:39 PM
Speaking of good Intentions i sent my customer a message after his barrage of messages and all of this was over. Guess what ? Crickets that's what. People are Evil today, far from the days of Sam Walton.
