Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

Hello Ebay Members,

Just sent a message to a seller asking qustions about a item. Seller does not repond just raises the price and ends the item. What is a person suppose to do when no body wants to communicate? This has happen to me several times. I'm not tring to be _____ about it. Why even sell at all?  As a buyer I'm starting to get a bad vibe as do not even ask qustions put that on your ad. The Feedback communication system does not work on here. What a waste of time? Hope all is well for other sellers buyers.

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

It seems a bit odd that a seller would raise the price and then end the listing.  Did he perhaps end the listing and then re-list at a higher price?

It is possible that the seller upon receiving your question realized that he had undervalued the item.  This could explain the reason for the price increase.

Unfortunately, eBay has let it be known that they frown on too much buyer/seller communication.  While I and many other people think communications is a good thing, some sellers try to limit it so much in order to avoid eBay's bots suspecting them of trying to make off eBay deals that they go to the extreme and end up being rude.

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

I have always loved questions from buyers.  Maybe I did miss something that is not of importance to me but to the buyer.  I'd rather have a buyer ask as many questions as need be than have to return the item.  I have met some very nice buyers in the past and some were repeat buyers.  If I felt the questions were perhaps on the trivial side, then I would block and move on, but raise the price and end it, nope 🙂

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

I always put measurements in the listing.

I get a message asking for the measurement. I humored them and looked at the listing. Guess what? Mr "always puts in measurements" didn't.

Glad I didn't just block that buyer.

Raise the price end the item. All over about asking what the date code is stamped on the product for the transferable warranty because the manufacture offers it.

That was explained upthread. I sell on multiple venues. The seller could have sold the item on another venue. I routinely check my prices to make sure I'm in line whith the going sold price - I raise and lower my prices all the time to stay current with an item's worth. They maybe obtained more information about the item - just from the question you ask about the transferrable warrenty and upped the price as that is plus for a buyer.

There are a number of reasons why they raised the price.

I wouldn't assume anything. Only the seller knows why he did what he did. Why don't you just straight up ask him? Raising the price before ending the listing points to that there was a problem. Rare--the item was worth much more than he had it priced at. More likely--he didn't know where it was, or he had sold it before and ebay had ghost listed it again, or he sold it someplace else, or he decided to keep it for himself, or his brother, wife, neighbor, friend wanted it...the possibilities are endless really. Maybe it was broken, lost, or defective in some way. What I wouldn't do is assume that what transpired had anything to do with me and my question. Your question was not offensive, so I wouldn't worry about it. The item is for whatever reason no longer available, go find another.

Great Idea!!!

oh my, no!

They weren't ever going to be my customers in the first place...they can all go to you.

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

I'll list a thing I am not 100% familiar with.

Customer will ask a question specific to the model...like is this piece on there or is this part blue or red, what is the date code on the back. The kind of question that you know they are looking for something without telling you why.

Then I google that or ebay search it. I'll often find that I way underpriced an item and the customer gave me the information.

Thanks buddy!

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

I am going to go shopping today.  I will ask a clerk a question and see if they grab it out of my hand and then restamp a new price on it.

Uh, no.  Do your 100% researching before hand.

Then list, let it go live and be professional.  Because it is going to turn off that buyer and others who saw it at the original price.

As far as asking questions, not every buyer has an agenda.  Somtimes a question is just a question.

Yeah, well you don't make the rules around here.

Thanks though.

No, I do not make the rules but I do represent the average buyer - the person you are trying to attract not p off.

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

For the first time in my selling experience, I just did the same thing.  It really was a knee jerk reaction out of frustration more than anything.  I wasn't angry at the buyer, but the question just reminded me of the problems I already had with this item that I couldn't resolve and just didn't want to deal with another return---twice already.

I felt I shouldn't have relisted it and I explained this to the buyer that I just couldn't answer her question so I ended the listing.  She was unhappy and we discussed back and forth.   She still wanted the item so I relented, relisted, and sold it.  Time will tell if I messed up again.  I know one thing, I will never buy this item for resale ever ever again.

Questions are welcome by me and sometimes quite helpful, but they can also pull a scab off.  If a seller ends an item, it is probably for their own protection rather than trying to annoy a buyer.  We all want to make money, but have to look out for danger to our selling ability.

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

your question does not seem out of line. Maybe they didn't realize that the warranty was transferable and decided that was a selling feature and would get a higher amount. Possibly even elsewhere.

I encountered a buyer just this morning, whom had been making low offers all week that were set to auto decline. Today she offered an amount above that amount and I read her notes with the other offers. "Work w me, this item is used", "why are you listing as best offer if you don't accept?" "Other sellers accept these offers on used items" etc. The item is nwot and is unused. Stated, shown I photos, and so on.

I accepted offer before reading notes, and i messaged her. Clarifying it is infact new without tags. 5 questions later about how its new if its discontinued, each ending in some form of "a used item" she says she will pay in 8 days. I called eBay to cancel the sale. 8 days is not acceptable, I am not messing around with that kind of shipping delay and I just feel as though she was setting me up for a snad. Sometimes its just a gut feeling. Sometimes it has nothing to do with the question asked....

Please describe the average buyer and I’ll let you know if you can represent me, if I turn out to be an average buyer. Thanks

Re: Seller ends item just because I asked questions?

Yes, you get problem buyers and the first 3 can be difficult.  But is that fair to the 4th person?

It is like answering questions here, many are the same over and over again.  So we get terse.  But then I realize that while we are the same people answering over and over, each person asking is an individual, so you cannot blame him for the actions of others.

Do you primarily just sell here or do you buy as well.

I both buy and sell so I can see if from both sides.
