Seller Protection?

Anonymous
Not applicable

As a fellow seller here, I must warn you that when you have issues with dishonest buyers eBay will find a way to take their side AND your money. I just had a buyer open a return for the item not being authentic (first lie, because it definitely was as I purchased the item from an authorized store myself) and buyer was uncooperative and refused any sort of proof of authenticity. Because of eBay policies I really had no choice but to accept the return. Then, instead of returning the original brand new bag, they sent a pair of used shoes! Then (2nd lie) had the audacity to accuse me of making the substitution!
To top it all off, eBay just informed me that even though I provided photos of the shoes and her shipping box with measurements showing it wasn't even big enough to contain the original item without causing damage, they had found in her favor and issued her refund. So I just paid $275 PLUS return shipping for a pair of ugly, dirty used shoes that are definitely not my style and not even my size!!!  Oh yeah, and a hit on seller performance!
Ebay has no loyalty to its' sellers whatsoever and "Seller Protection" is a joke so, after 14 years on eBay, this relationship will very soon be coming to an end.
Sorry to have unloaded on you, but as a seller, be very cautious.
Thanks for listening and stay safe!

Re: Seller Protection?

A similar thing happened to me a few years ago. I sold a Tinker Bell trailer hitch cover that I had purchased at a Disney store, and hadn't even taken it out of the original box, except to take a photo of it. The buyer, immediately, after receiving it, emailed me, saying she couldn't believe I would send her a used one. She ranted and raved on about why I would send such a thing to her. Ebay approved the return, and a few days later I received a beat up, bent, and very faded hitch cover. I also sent pictures of the original item and box to Ebay. Once again, proof that the buyer is always right.

Re: Seller Protection?

This all just happened yesterday and I need to give myself a couple of days first to calm down. If I tried to talk to someone right now they would hang up on me due to the "language" if you know what I mean.

Hi @Anonymous, typically you can contact customer service or go to Seller Help to see if an appeal is an option. While not always the case, there are times when an appeal may be available for a fraudulent return. I've gone ahead and sent your case over to the team for review. You should receive an email today with the outcome of that. Thanks!

After 14 years, you should know what happens when a buyer files an INAD.

There is absolutely nothing funny about this.  I am a retiree who sells here to supplement a meager social security income.  What is happening is out and out THEFT.  Is it funny to steal from someone's grandparent???

I was laughing at the statement and the implications of it - NOT at anything else.

When you have been here for 22+ years, you have seen and heard just about every excuse and scam that you can think of, and some you can't think of.

I can't count the number of times that sellers say they are leaving because of this or that, and years later they are still selling here. That is what lucky was referring to.

Re: Seller Protection?

Had this also happen with a makeup item. Which by law you can't accept returns on, but that doesn't seem to matter to Ebay. The Ebay supervisor mind you told me the buyer can TRY the item and they have 29 days to return the item! So basically anyone can buy something use it for 29 days then open a case saying not as described and your forced to refund and lose shipping both ways! and then to add salt to the wound , told me "it's the cost of doing business". I told them they sure do make enough money off me selling they should also be willing to take the risk with me and loss. The problem is if your not a retail store or extra large seller you can't write off the loss.

That's odd. According to eBay you've only been here since last July.

Some sellers have more than one ebay account.

Re: Seller Protection?

I know that but if that seller wants to be taken seriously here why would they choose to use an account with no history?

Thank you Brian for helping him.  It can be very disheartening when you get taken advantage of like this. Stay healthy and safe!

OMG! There is a light at the end of the tunnel!!!
Just received this message from eBay:

Thank you for contacting us about case for the following item:

164095549315 - NWT COACH 31929 HEATHER GREY PAGE SHOULDER BAG WITH BORDER RIVETS

We've reviewed your concerns and have reversed the outcome of the case. We will process a credit within 48 hours to your financial instrument.

Because we decided in your favor, this case, any feedback left, and all detailed seller ratings left, will not affect your seller performance. In addition, any feedback left for this transaction will be removed.

Thanks Brian. I really appreciate what you have done but I do have a question. Why doesn't ebay listen a little closer to the seller in the first place instead of making us jump through hoops???
