Most people are honest.
You list, they pay, you ship.
Both of you leave polite feedback.
Some signs are
Feedback Left for Others.
A request to exchange texts.
Any message that tries to lower your price by telling you the item is not worth the money

You really can't. If it were that easy there would be no scams online....

It's difficult. It's not like they say... Hi, I'm a scammer from Totonmungo.
There's some out there, but don't let that deter you from listing. Keep on your toes and follow the advice from the community when sheet happens...should it.

One of the obvious ways, as already mentioned, is checking feedback left for others. If they leave a lot of negatives, you can check for responses from Sellers and get the general drift of the person your are dealing with.
I have actually found one guy that an eBay seller posted about on yelp. The buyer mentioned on yelp was trying to pull the same scam on me as was talked about on yelp by one of his victims.
So, once you get a name and address when a buyer pays, other information can be obtained thru internet search. You can find out a LOT about people thru the internet. Most of the time, my suspicions are found to be a non issue but it is nice to have that confidence especially if it is a expensive item.

What do you mean by scammer ? With thousands of sales, I've never seen one or had one.
