Say Goodbye to your Search Bar

It has come to my attention that if you do not have a store account, you no longer have a search bar on your Items for Sale page.  You're more than welcome to buy your Search Bar back for the price of a store subscription.  Otherwise, kiss your sales goodbye when potential buyers give up scrolling through all of your listings trying to find something specific.  Yes, you now have to BUY a Search Bar for your listings.

This has been confirmed to me by Customer Service, after a prolonged and tortured discussion, so this is NOT a technical issue, so please do not move this post to the technical issues board.

 Yes. While the town/city I live in is not that large it is in what is referred to as the Washington (DC) Metropolitan Area (WMA). There are 5 major malls within 15 miles along with hundreds of other discount malls and stores in the region. Potomac Mills has claimed to be the #1 tourist destination in Virginia is 12 miles south of me and has over 225 stores inside the mall with who knows how many others around it.

That must be an exciting place to live!

Re: Say Goodbye to your Search Bar

Search is the most basic thing - lats night I searched my listings for Redding and it brings up everything with 'red', even when I searched in quotes, they've killed that functionality it seems, worked too well.  Because if your search works too well, Ebay can't feed you what they want you to search for.   That's why Ebay is constantly changing your search parameters.

Re: Say Goodbye to your Search Bar

Good point. One thing I don't see any more is people buying in quantity / bulk in order to save money on these crazy shipping costs these days. I remember when there was a box that the seller could click to state they combine shipping and would show up in each of their listings. I don't see that anymore. All I see now is the cart feature and hoping a potential buyer may contact seller to ask if they combine.

Removing the search bar is just going to make it worse for shoppers and may push them to other competing selling sites, and eBay will lose more money. Going after the sellers to make up lost in profits because they did not their financial goals is not good business practice.

Re: Say Goodbye to your Search Bar

May be worth the $6 a month for a store?

I, for one, have been here since the ebay started, used to spend hours searching for years and I NEVER bothered trying to 'search' for something from a specific seller unless they had a store.

I also never just go to a 'board' on this forum, I just click 'community' and it shows me all the latest posts.

Re: Say Goodbye to your Search Bar

Most of my buyers buy multiple items. I don't need buyers to message me. They just need to add items to their cart and checkout. I have it set up so combined shipping is automatically calculated.

@hartungcards ,

I don’t think the change will affect non store sellers that much since most of them have less than 250 items for sale. It doesn’t take very long to scroll thru that many listings.

This was my thought too, only I was thinking it would probably be less than 100 now that the Starter Store option exists.

You know where the milk is, and can go right to it without looking at anything else if you don't want to.
