Sale Have Plummeted!!

I have been selling on eBay for 13 Years. This is the worst drop in sales I have ever seen. I'm down 44% in the last month. I have a Store. I promote items. I offer quantity discounts. Good Pictures & Descriptions. Top Rated plus Rating. I send coupons. Quick & safe shipping. So I call eBay and get the run around. He tries to give me pointers on how to sell. WTH? It HAS to be their issue, not mine. Anyone else having this problem? Thanks!!

Re: Sale Have Plummeted!!

Yeah, sales in the tank for the last 10 days. They just dropped off to nothing with no indication it's going to change.  I've put up 80 listings in the last week which usually gives me a boost but nothing.  Same thing happened almost exactly 5 years ago, (which oddly enough was about a year and a half after a major collection purchase, same as now), with the result being I ended all my listings and downgraded my store.  It took several months to recover.

The difference now is I have two other sales outlets with different merchandise, both of which are doing well.  Ebay is so fickle due to search manipulation that I could no longer depend on it alone.

Re: Sale Have Plummeted!!

I'm guessing you are talking about the $ (being 44% down) as the numbers you have are not that far off from August.

Past 3 months you've had 306 sales, or 102 average per month (August you had 110 sales; anywhere from 0 in a day to 10: Aug 31 you had 9, Aug 30 you had 1 and Aug 29 you had 0 for example)

That is 3.29 per day.

For October (23 days, 61 sals, average 2.65 a day)

That is a difference of 19.5%.

Yes. The same slow down did happen in 2017 and in my opinion with sales receipts proof, eBay was never the same.

Thanks So Much for your kind replies !! I have mixed feelings now. Looks like we're all in the same boat, so that makes me feel a little better, But now I feel bad for all of us. Just keep listing I guess & hope something breaks loose. Good Luck to You All !!

Re: Sale Have Plummeted!!

This is the middle of the holiday season and our sales were better over the typically slow summer.  But I don't think it's simply the economy. Most of our sales focus on older/retired people who, presumably, still have disposable income.

What is the point of TURNING OFF a seller anyway? Do not get it.

Pushing you to use one of their PL products..

For me, this new listing mechanism has been the death knell.  As soon as eBay dumped it on all of us at the beginning of October, my sales plummeted even further than they had previously.

And it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever:  Why would a change in listing procedures for sellers have an effect upon buyers' habits?

And yet -- it has.

Weird -- just in time for Halloween.

Since the new listing tool has been out for about 2 years or so, and some of us have been using it since then, I don't see how it has any affect on buyers.

The robots are still there, they just don't count their visits like before.

Have a great day.

You have to ask yourself: Are you sure the robots are still visiting Ebay ?????

You can use different search engines and see they still are.

Have a great day.

I have noticed a huge drop off in sales this month only. Is it the economy or eBay who knows. Supposedly the economy has been in the toilet the entire period that may sales have been extremely consistent within. From October 2019 until now. I think there is definitely something going on with eBay currently. Supposedly the economy was horrible during the whole covid period. I had extremely consistent sales until this month.

One thing that would help, is if they fixed the their search engine.

You can search for one item and they change your search to what they want to show you, not what your looking for.

Have a great day.

Re: Sale Have Plummeted!!

I have to agree with you. eBay is doing everything possible to make it even harder to sell. If I'm paying for an eBay store, why in HELL am I seeing "elated sponsored items" on my auction listing? I tried "promoted listing", that doesn't help. The only one who benefits is eBay. I am on the phone every other day with eBay with these "eBay standard shipping envelopes" showing negative marks in my seller dashboard. I dropped off 12 of these envelopes at the PO last Saturday, which gave me a 2 day window to be scanned by the machines midnite Monday night. Guess what? NO SCANS! WTH? I complete my end of the bargain but I get penalized?

"Just keep listing I guess & hope something breaks loose."

You have about 450 listings and likely many unlisted items too.  It's best to stop buying inventory until things pick up.   If you have a budget, adjust it to reflect reality.  If you don't, make one and see where you can and can't economize.   This isn't going to end overnight; it was years in the making - butter at $4.59 and eggs for $3.59 will not suddenly cost less tomorrow.

I have been off for three weeks. My brother has been off too. I was off for the update regarding views and PL at 2% for about a week. Then they turned me back on for about 6 weeks. I sold a few things overnight last night, hopefully its coming back on.

From reading all the posts about this lots of sellers experiencing being turned off but at different times.

It feels to me like they have to kick everyone out of the boat in order to update and we wait in a line to get back in the boat. Im currently in the water. I wonder if the age of the account is a factor.

People who sell 5 yard sale items a month will come here and tell you its the economy. Its not. They don’t sell enough to really see the steep decline and just want to run their mouth to hear themselves talk.

Nothing you can do will change it. Don’t continually discount or promote more and more. That won’t help. Keep listing. It will come back soon.

It would be infinitely easier to deal with if ebay would be honest about breaking it, why it breaks, and when it will be fixed. They disgust me in this regard and its why I don’t participate in any meetups, surveys, or OPEN.

Great analogy!  It's so disturbing to have been kicked to the side by eBay (off the boat) and now I'm picturing myself treading water waiting to be rescued along with this huge line of people.

I would love to believe that this is what's happening because if that's true then there is hope for all of us! Personally I have been counting on eBay for 15 years for the income I need to pay the bills.  I've never experienced anything like this.

Re: Sale Have Plummeted!!

right there with you....and we made some calls to ebay today about this, (the entire weekend just 1 order, so something is clearly wrong) and while they don't tell you anything specific etc of course, she was very interested in the exact details of the problem. She did confirm they are getting a lot of calls and complaints about this very issue of orders not happening,,,so that was something at least. The more that call the better so I urge everyone to keep letting them know if your in this boat. You wont get a solution or anything, but she was well aware something is wrong and for so many to be contacting them.

Re: Sale Have Plummeted!!

To be honest the die cast market is pretty flat or non existent for mid kind of vintage, everyone is on the buy-hype train of what's new like usual. Same with sports cards and anything collectible.

Star Wars is a dead brand since Disney destroyed the Skywalker story, only stuff from the 70's early 80's will always sell, anything else is a crapshoot.

Anything from the late 90's early 2000's in sports figurines - memorabilia is dead. Ruined by steroids.

All kinds of issues including people with maxed out credit cards and the losses of buying memorabilia in hopes to flip it mount every day.
