Re: SELLING

I imagine the market demographic for $1000 vintage canister sets is pretty small, and getting smaller with each passing day.

Otherwise, your pictures are nice, but I think could be improved with an even inexpensive light tent, no extra lights needed even, just shoot outside on a sunny day like it looks like you mostly do already.

Re: SELLING

The expensive canisters have sold in the past and are rare thus the price, $5,000.00 sold in May and now nothing, I always (25 years on this site) take images in the sun when it's possible, sellers have asked how I get such good images, that isn't the problem. As for $1000.00 canister sets they are a very small part of my items and the only ones on Ebay or Etsy.    bubba

Re: SELLING

Oh my!

I wish I could help you with what to do.

I looked at 2 pages of your items for sale and got so excited seeing them thinking I had plenty of similar goodies right here in my kitchen having bought like vintage kitchen ware items some so many decades ago.
Alas!  Then I walked into my kitchen. Searching for it all to no avail.

My being on eBay 25 years, obviously by now I sold everything, every single kitchen item morsel I remember having.  All gone.  None left here.  Finito!  All eBay sold.

My wonderful old colorful depression glass just a fond memory.  All cute stuff gone.
I guess in this New York City heat I was having hallucinations of my past merchandise!

Best of Luck..

Do you really think you should have a sale every week ? Sorry to say but your expectations are way too high. Some things can be on Ebay for six months without a sale. The biggest factor is if your items are in demand enough and priced low enough to attract buyers. You can test what I said by lowering your price on a couple items by 80% off. My guess is you will have a sale within a day.

Re: SELLING

checked out your items & while very nice, most of us here are trying to keep up with food, gas, rent issues. No extra money for old things that will need dusting often. Good luck to you & the rest of us sellers. kinda tired of going without fun things to buy. just the needed things.

Re: SELLING

I'm thinking that anyone should have at least one sale every week, considering millions of people buy here. The odds of a sale a week should be very good. Of course, lowering prices by 80% will get sales but very little profit, so that's not very good at all.

Re: SELLING

I have always found my sales to be much slower in the summer.  That works for me, since I am outside more, working in the garden, planting, etc.   Sales are cyclical, so it will come back around.

Re: SELLING

Very pretty items!  I feel you have them priced fairly as my grandmother had an antique store I helped in for most of my life.  Like others have said I just think the demand just isn't a priority right now for a lot of people who are faced with the choice between "pretty" things or paying a bill coming due.  I am sure you have plenty of "interest" in your beautiful items though, they are very nice. I just think right now people are more focused on the necessary items.

If you can afford to lower prices that may appeal to the Antique Seller who may has a brick and mortar store.  Your items are priced comparably to what they could sell them for so would not be any room for mark-up on their end.  Otherwise, I would say just wait it out and pray things turn around.

I do not sell in your category due to just not having the storage space for it.  I stick to mainly clothing and shoes with a little misc household as I find it.  Even though I am in a different genre than you I have noticed that my basic "mall brands" and discount store brands are still selling consistently but my higher end items I sit on for months.  People are just buying cheaper items right now overall for me.  But I can't complain as I am still getting daily sales.  I used to not pick up brands from Walmart, Target , etc  because just wasn't worth the time to clean, list and process them.  I have been picking up those brands the past couple months that are NWT or in "like new" condition so it cuts down on the time to clean and inspect them. But that's what is selling right now for me.  My gross sales are up compared to last year so people are still buying in my categories, just not the expensive stuff.  I had to shift my business plan to needing to sell 2-3 times the number of items since the higher end stuff wasn't moving but at least I'm still selling consistently.  Defiantly more work for me but it is keeping my sales up.  Maybe check or follow the market trends to help you keep up with what is in demand.  Its defiantly always changing for me.

Best of luck to you for some sales soon.

Ebay needs to do it's part

Let people know, why visit & shop on ebay !

In this difficult economic time for manny, Ebay needs to increase spending to : advertise, publicize, & create public awareness on the benefits of shopping & making purchases on ebay

Cheers

Re: SELLING

Diversify.

All your listings are very similar items (at least to my uneducated eyes) glasswear or ceramics.

Branch out into some different categories. Like golfing too? Get some golf items you think may sell. Beer drinker? Get some beer related items to sell. And so on. Maybe one category will sell for you while another goes thru a slow time.

I sell old car parts, beer items, cast iron skillets, precision measuring tools, equipment manuals, & more. Something is always selling.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

Re: SELLING

Dunno, because I see 310 current listings for you.

Incidentally, your items are beautiful, and nostalgic to me because my mother had some of them.  Would be buying in a heartbeat, but, unfortunately, am at the stage in my life where the traffic should be moving OUT of my house, not IN.

As time goes along, and as others have mentioned, young folks now are spending their funds on experiences more than tangible items to keep in the china cabinet most of the time.

I think the point that was trying to be made is that your piece of the buyers that these types of things are interested in is growing smaller and smaller all the time.  It is typically older people that collect this stuff and the younger crowd, not so much.  They have different interests.

While it appears you have a terrific little business going on and your sales are typically very good.  Your future is going to be different as we lose more and more of the people that collect this kind of thing.

I think they can reasonably expect that.  Their sales history shows they typically have been doing this for a long time.

Re: SELLING

@eze-right1   I know it is not very good advice, but for the OP and yourself included that think you should have at least one sale, at least it will ease your fears.
