If a seller cancels for out of stock (aka didn't get enough $ for auction in this case), buyers should not have to wait 7 days to be able to leave a neutral or negative.
I might have left a neutral, but now that I have to stew about it for a week, she'll probably get a well deserved negative.
I bid 2x on this auction just in case I wouldn't be online when it ended, but I was online and paid right away. I really wanted these items.
If ANY seller cancels for out of stock, buyers should be able to post negative feedback without having to wait 7 days.
Am I off base on this? Why make the buyer wait?

Yes, she communicated, but not very effectively.
Well, you mentioned earlier that the seller : She only has a couple dozen household, collectible, and clothing items listed.
Sounds as if she doesn't not have a big enough inventory to be suggesting substitutions, and although this might seem to you like a good customer focused approach, I think the opposite.
Personally, I would never make a suggestion like this to a buyer, lest having already made a mistake, I be misunderstood and reported for trying to do something nefarious like make an off-eBay sale or bait-and-switch. If a seller makes an offer like this to a buyer, even as a simple substitution (desirable item in place of the unavailable one) and the buyer takes the seller up on this, the seller is at risk to have the substituted item received and flagged as NOT AS DESCRIBED.

I agree with this. You planned to leave a neutral but now that you can’t leave it for 7 days which something the seller has no control over you said you were going to leave a neg instead because of that wait. I don’t agree with that. Once the seven days Is up leave the neutral you intended.
And ive accidentally donated things I had listed before. Luckily none sold before I caught it. I did sell a pair of sunglasses that no matter how much I looked I couldn’t find. I figured it must’ve been one of the situations where I accidentally donated
years later I found them...

In the category in which I usually frequent, I'm admittedly accustomed to a more personal approach most likely due to the audience for these items. Not a lot of scammers in that category. In fact, in 22 years, I haven't come across a single scammer there.
This power seller appears to be winding down her operation. She has 100% positive feedback for the past year, but not many transactions. This morning (after being reminded for the umpteenth time that I still have to leave feedback), I finally checked her out at Toolhaus. She has had many unhappy customers for the same reason: the item was disposed of before the sale was made.
I'm not sure how much sympathy I'm supposed to have for her. Her feedback also shows her leaving negatives to sellers for the same reason AND negatives to buyers back when she was able.

I don't believe I've made any suggestions or comments that involve sympathy.
You're free to do as you please. I think it's important however, to recognize those things that might be affecting your disposition toward negative vs neutral that are outside of the the seller's control.
1. eBay's 7 day waiting period to leave neutral or negative feedback for a Powerseller
2. eBay reminding you to leave feedback for this transaction (did you mention this before, or is this something else that is bothering you that you didn't bring up until now?)
Regardless of what feedback a buyer decides to leave, I strongly believe that a buyer should avoid being influenced by things that are not actually in that seller's control.

Yeah, I can see her falling in Search. What buyers would want to deal with a seller like that???

None.
I had sympathy for you because you dealt with a seller who let you down, but I didn't think the seller was worth thinking about for 7 days, so, that's why I suggested you forget about it.
Now, having said that, I do think the seller has earned a neg, so leave a neg when the time is ripe if you still want to.

I agree. Sometimes it’s warranted to leave feedback that early.

It doesn't matter if the seller was rude or not.
The fact is, the op bid, won, and paid,
and the seller failed to ship,
it's as simple as that.
And if the op still considers it to be a negative experience, then the op can leave a neg in a couple of days and move on.

Sorry you didn’t get your item, don’t know enough to say if she didn’t get the price she wanted but things are so slow for some of us atm we cross list or flea market sell. It’s only happened twice for me but I have had items which sat forever get sold in two different places and had to cancel. She should have added BIN. Sorry you are so eager to leave a negative. Thing about life, you can’t get everything you want the second you want it.

Probably because in a weeks time some buyers may have found something else and might not be as angry as when it first happened. A long time ago a seller had a cute paint set she had put on auction . This was back in the day that e bay would recommend a starting price 😞 Well , she listened and began the auction at 99 cents , free shipping . The trouble was at the end of the 7 day auction I was still the only bidder . It would have cost her money to go through with it . I contacted her and told her I'd pay the shipping if that would make her feel better ,, but I never heard anything back nor did I ever get the item . I just refrained from leaving feedback all together . I figured she was just inexperienced and made a mistake. I don't know about your seller but when there's uncertainty I'd probably just let it go.. just speaking for myself .. Tulips
