I have a quick question.
A few days ago I received in the mail a shipment returned and envelope said person unknown.
I double checked envelope against eBay address for item and it was correct. Have also sent a message to buyer and have not heard back.
I am wondering what to do? And long to wait until I consider it for reselling.

Wait for the buyer to reply. It is up to you how long you wait.

I think it's wise to at least reach out to the buyer, who may be willing to PayPal you the funds to re-send to a good address. Naturally, you want the item back on the grid... you can cancel citing 'Problem with buyer's address' when you're ready to relist. That'll get your FVFs back, anyway. Good luck.

I usually wait 30 days or more. I usually don't email buyer or do a refund. I also save envelope and take photo of it in case buyer does contact me. And I would not send it to a new address of the buyer.

Odd since generally the PO will deliver the package to the address specified regardless of the name. Have to assume that whomever lived at that address, if it was delivered to the correct address, was an honest person and marked it return to sender.
Without the buyer responding not much you can do other than wait a reasonable time to relist the item.

Would contact the buyer, explain what happened and give them a reasonable deadline to tell you what they want you to do.
Once that deadline expires, you can refund, deducting the shipping cost.

Remember, under these circumstances, you are not required/obligated to do anything for the buyer.
Although most sellers will refund the buyer, less shipping.
