Return Disagreement

Hello,

I'm very new to selling on Ebay and needed some advice. I recently sold and Xbox, and the buyer wanted to return it under the classification that it was not working properly, and the imagine quality was 'blurry.' The buyer shipped the Xbox back to me and I received it today. Once I got it back I immediately plugged it in to see if there were any issues. I assumed there wouldn't be because I tested it out before it ever sold. Sure enough, it is working perfectly. No blurry image at all.

Now that its been returned I need to issue a refund, but Ebay is wanting me to refund his money plus the shipping he paid for. Since there isn't anything wrong with the product, do I just have to eat that shipping cost? I've clicked on 'report a problem' but even after that, Ebay is wanting me to refund his money and the shipping.

What should I do?

Return Disagreement

I've actually had an issue similar to this happen to me recently where a buyer purchased some clothing and then reported that the item was defective when in fact they damaged it. So I accepted the return because eBay doesn't give you a choice however, I learned that when an issue like this happens, you can call the eBay selling team and they can do what is called a "no fault" case on the buyer. They should be able to walk you through the steps of reporting the buyer but don't issue the refund just yet. Allow eBay to create the case and see what funds you can recover. Hope this helps 🙂

In a he said, she said, case, Ebay will always rule in favor of the buyer...always.

Return Disagreement

I just had this happen to me with a Playstation game. I tested, listed it, showed images of it working, and when it sold, less than 2 hours after it was received, the buyer left me a negative, told me it didn't work, and opened a return. Luckily I got the game back and it still worked and ebay even removed the neg for me. I refunded the buyer and told him he might want to get his console repaired. Maybe a little passive aggressive, but also meant to be helpful. But I digress.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do other than refunding. That would include shipping. Only other thing I can recommend is building up your feedback (assuming you're using your selling account here). Buy some things from big sellers who leave auto-feedback, and sell some lower value things. People are less likely to mess with you and ebay is probably more likely to side with you once you have more history. That's been my experience anyway. Good luck.

Long story short you're going to eat returns like this 100% of the time.

I'm sure the buyer got his use out of it for the weekend party and now is shipping it back.

Ebay does not protect sellers at all in cases like this and in fact counts this negatively against your account
