Quick View Version of Listing Page---Questions for ebay

devon@ebay.com

I see the Quick View "Condensed" version of the Listing Page is showing up again on my PC when I click on items in ebay stores. This view provides no detailed condition section, nor does it contain a description section. A buyer can choose to click through to see the full listing page, or can go straight to check out and buy without ever reading a detailed condition/description.

The buyers can look at the photos, but, unlike the actual listing page, he cannot hover over them or click them to enlarge them, thus possibly missing visual information about the items condition. And , if the seller has also included a video, that video does not appear in the Quick View at all. (ebay encourages us to use video, and one reason to use it is to highlight condition for used items)

So, my questions for which ever team is involved with this:

Why is this being tested in the first place?

(Or, it is already being rolled out?)

If we are going to get this , will it be confined to stores, as it seems to be now?

Is there any chance ebay will revise it to include:

the detailed condition statement if seller has provided one?

The ability to enlarge Gallery Photos by hovering over the photo in Quick View?

Add in the Video (if seller provided one) , with the ability to play it from the Quick View, or perhaps clicking on the video takes the buyer to the full listing, where buyer can watch the video?

Example of Quick View:

This is NOT a good idea for anything but mass-produced, new commodities.

It's being done on my store. Yes, it invites trouble if the buyer doesn't even read the description or the MANY item specifics that Ebay insists on.

Yes, though the item specifics are basically to get the item found in search rather than to be actually read in and of themselves.

This wasn't really thought through very well - perhaps eBay has forgotten that people sell other stuff than what you can get at Amazon?

Re: Quick View Version of Listing Page---Questions for ebay

Just another example of eBay trying to push the mobile format onto everyone. I wish they would understand that those of us who use PC do so because the mobile format is inferior for buyers AND for sellers, as well as more time consuming.

There are too many chances for buyers to purchase without ever even being shown the details that we are pestered to provide, and then we are stuck holding the bag for INAD claims that could have been prevented, had the buyer been show the information they needed to see before buying.

I'm not sure my "tag" up above worked properly.

More people are seeing the Quick View, and once again, ebay seems to be leaving us in the dark about just what we are seeing. This would be a good opportunity for ebay to display some of that "transparency" and "seller engagement" we keep hearing about.

So, if you could pass my original post's questions onto the proper team(s), it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

devon@ebay : Please make a note to ping them after 3 days if no one responds to you by then. The biggest problem we see over and over again is when a Community contact forwards questions to a team somewhere else and they never respond.

The OP has several specific questions so please try to get them to answer each one - and not just send back one blanket paragraph about how they are always testing new and exciting ways to enhance the buying experience and so on. Thanks.

I am not understanding the problem. If a buyer wants more info it says right there to click for more info.

    Also please pass along sellers' frustration with eBay unnecessarily tinkering with things that aren't broken, and would be better left alone... This particular "change" is a prime example of tinkering pushed thru without considering unintended consequences.

@coolections:

   Not enough buyers will see and click on the "View All Details" button for additional important  information. All they see is the big photo, never investigate further, and just add it to their cart or buy it now. The result is more unnecessary INADs because too many buyers don't READ the details. This is a problem that nearly all sellers have faced for many years, and now it's being exacerbated.

@coolections

@duffy4444

By my translation what sounds like is happening is if a buyer searches with the app they are less likely to see everything vs the PC.

As for listing tool comparisons....App vs PC.... many options are not available(I have a mental list but wish there was a published 1 for transparency). Once the seller skips they are at risk for an INR all in the sake of speeding up the process and in turn creating generic looking listings listings with less and less actual item data.

I know of no websites at all that have the same info on the app as they do on the PC. It took me about 10 seconds to see the link to see more details but whatever.

@coolectionsYou say:  "I am not understanding the problem. If a buyer wants more info it says right there to click for more info."

Not sure who you are addressing?  If this is directed at my initial post, I'm not saying there's a "problem"  I'm asking questions about a test/new feature. As an ebay seller, I like to stay informed about just what ebay is doing, and, as far as I know, ebay has not put out any announcement about this change.

Personally, I don't see this as a "problem".  IF ebay decides to add this as a store "feature", I'm OK with it. I do have questions about it, just as I often have questions when ebay does a Seller Update., etc.

At present, this seems to be confined to stores. Long experience with ebay makes me think that this change is a first step , and its value, if any, (either to ebay, or to sellers , or to both) will become more clear when the next step (or steps) is put in place.

But for now, I'm just hoping to get a few answers to a few questions.
