I purchased a shipping label through eBay, but someone else is using my tracking number, and it’s already showing as in transit now. I’m not sure how this happened when i havent even dropped off the package yet, could someone please help me figure out what to do? Is there any way to resolve this and get a refund?

Kyle has posted an update on this problem on the shipping board.

I took it upon myself not to take that suggestion, I chose to go elsewhere for a label.
They also never said I would be refunded.
I was told IT was dealing with it that all CS said.
@bashort It is an eBay glitch USPS is not to blame here.
What I shared did not come from Customer Service..

@mordecai8614 wrote:Even though my defected labels were showing up "delivered" on USPS.com, they only showed "label created" on eBay's platform. So I just went ahead and shipped the items. Once the post office scanned the label, the tracking updated accurately & correctly on eBay. It shouldn't be a problem
That is excellent information. USPS has been in conversation with the Ebay Shipping Team and they are working together to solve this issue. This is wonderful information to have. Thank you for posting this.

Arrghhh, I wish I would have read this before my DH said he was going out to an appt & did I want him to drop off my 7 pkgs. I said yes. Then I read this. Looks like 3 of mine were affected.
To those saying this is an eBay problem, how do you know that? The USPS has recycled numbers for many years, it just seems like these got recycled way too soon. Seems like a USPS issue to me. How would you using a different label provider make any difference?

Thats what I had to do buy another label.

I wonder if it is, also. I had this happen to me on Mercari today, using Pirate Ship. The package showed as 'delivered' when I input the tracking number. A few hours later the tracking was completely gone and Mercari was telling me that I was *late*. I input the tracking number again and this time it showed as simply 'shipped'.

ebay customer service told me to use the label.
The ebay reps on this board post say to cancel the label.
no one at ebay knows what they are doing.

Read post 30 on this thread. That seller reported that after USPS scanned the item in, the tracking straighten out. So chances are you are just fine. Ebay and USPS are working on the issue.

Timing has a lot to do with information. What I've shared is the most current information. And now we have a seller reporting that after they dropped off their packages and USPS scanned them in, the tracking recovered to read what it should be reading for that specific package. USPS and Ebay are working to resolve the issue and it seems there is progress.

@mam98031 Thank you, I'm not worried about it, I'm confident it will get straightened out, although mine did not get straightened out after scanning b/c my DH waits & has the human scan them & I read this & checked an hour or 2 after that had already happened. I'm still not worried though b/c I'm sure they'll get to my buyers.
I'm just questioning that this is an eBay issue. It sounds like a USPS issue to me & since @chapeau-noir said it happened on a PS bought Mercari label, that seems to support that.

I have 11 packages I dropped off yesterday that say delivered that have not updated and it's been over 24 hours. I did not manually get them scanned in because I didn't know there was an issue until after.
My 30 other packages that did not have this problem already have scans at the next hub, so it is a little worrying that the 11 error labels are not updating at all. I have my doubts that there is any resolution or fix for this.

Sorry, I can't help you with how you feel about stuff. I understand your feelings, but it is far more likely that everything will be fine and your items will get to their destination. But again, you are entitled to feel any way you want to.

I've had the same issue with one of my packages. I created the label shipping to Wisconsin on Saturday (June 21st) for pick up on Monday. It was showing an attempted delivery in Lutz, FL Monday morning, before it was even picked up. My buyer contacted me Monday morning to make sure I had sent it to the right address. Not sure if Ebay or USPS was at fault, but I took a picture of the label, just in case. Guess I'll see how it plays out.

Since the USPS is the one who handles the actual tracking and number distribution, and eBay just provides a portal, I suspect it really is a USPS problem.
