Prohibited

Why are Playboy magazines being blocked from posting?  Where is the adult category?

For God's sake, there are schools allowing sexual Lewdness and lascivious behavior being taught to first graders yet an adult magazine for men is being banned? Our country is going insane. Create or reinstate an adult category for your sellers (and buyers) if you are so offended by it.

Re: Prohibited

Hi @coffeeboy2

eBay did away with its Adult Only Category ... apparently due to signing up with Adyen to handle Managed Payments.

While it still is possible to list adult items ... kind of ... it's really not worth it.  There are a lot of posts saying how apparently allowed items are being removed because of the current policy on nudity.

@coffeeboy2: As was noted already, there are plenty of listings for Playboy magazine on this site, to the point that, as @house*of*paws or @itsjustasprain says, any more would pretty much be lost in the clutter. (Basically you just need to ensure that none of your listing photos of the magazine are showing any naughty bits, and Playboy, to the best of my recollection, never has on their covers.)

At least your listing is for a great big pile all at once, whereas most of the others are single copies or smaller amounts, so you have that much working for you as far as distinguishing your listing from all the others, though I don't know if that's going to improve your chances of finding a buyer for 37 copies at $4 a pop (Make Offer duly noted), plus what seems like a rather huge Parcel Select shipping charge on top of that. You can probably bring down that Shipping charge quite a bit by seeing how many Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes could hold them. (You can buy up to five labels for shipping a single sale in multiple packages.) I think the Flat Rate Medium size should hold a single stack of them.

Some years ago, I bought an even bigger pile of them for five dollars total at a local garage sale, figuring that even just a couple bucks per copy would net a profit soon enough, only to discover that eBay was already swamped with them, and photographing each one with a minimal writeup would take more time than it would be worth, at least without some preparation that would reduce my time for listing each copy to a few minutes per.

Thus I still have the darn things boxed up in the basement along with all my other stock, and one of these days I'll go at that project again, maybe under a different ID so that my regular customers don't start wondering if I'm experiencing, um, an age-related career change (although, hey, there are worse things to have to inspect for flaws before listing 😉), but I have to admit that it was a bit of a letdown to discover that the rest of the world had been saving as many copies for resale as the guy I bought mine from, who couldn't unload his copies either.

Re: Prohibited

I had no idea they had done away with it, which is silly... they couldn't just filter adult themed items from normal searches but still allow sellers a way to sell safely sell them? This is just sad as adult themed items are obviously not geared towards everyone but the market is huge and Ebay is being lazy and or stupid by turning away from sellers that cater to this huge market... I can't imagine the astronical figures Ebay is losing by nit allowing these items

Re: Prohibited

Honestly, if eBay was making that much with adult items, they would have figured out a way to convince Adyen to process these sales, or developed a way to keep these sales with a different processing system.  As in any corporation, it's all about the bottom line, and they probably figured it wasn't a large enough market.  They may invite adult items back in the future.

The story about Lot's daughters is particularly wholesome.

Not to mention Shakespeare.  Titus Andronicus - sex and violence!

Re: Prohibited

Everybody had fun with the Playboy comments, we really can be funny when we want to be, however, "our children being taught lewd and lascivious behavior..." Really?

My 2nd grade grandson has homework that I did not have till 5th grade? He can speak two languages, and, kicks my rear at every darn game we play.

And if you actually think your "teachers" are the cause of possible lewdness, take away your children's computers and cellphones, because kids, all kids, learn off the internet. And that's an adult/parent issue.

Let your underpaid teachers do their job.

NOT really. Its notable that the OP has not returned to answer the request to identify any school in which children are being taught what was claimed.

I mean - seriously - when you read stupid stuff like that on the internet - where it is not hard to find - isnt there any part of your brain that says 'Wait a minute... that is ridiculous'? Or is your first thought to repeat it to others verbatim? That makes you look as dumb as whoever wrote the claim and posted it to the world.

Re: Prohibited

I believe OP is referring to classes acknowledging the existence of LGBTQ+ people, which some perceive as lewd and lascivious behavior (which straight people, of course, are not capable of).

Yes... yes they do. (Ask Jimmy Carter...)

I always smile when I hear that old joke about reading Playboy for the articles, because waaay back in the 1980s, I was the one who wrote the computerized typesetting software that produced the Playboy Magazine Library Index, an annual publication of theirs (with no pictures) that was distributed to libraries stocking the magazine.

Libraries generally didn't leave the magazines themselves sitting out, so if you wanted to check out an issue of the magazine and didn't know which one you were after, the Library Index listed the contents of all monthly editions over the past year or so. You would peruse the Index and then fill out a request card, and they'd retrieve that copy for you. I forget what range it covered now, probably it came out monthly, and just added the latest month's contents along with a cumulative total of the recent past.

Anyway, for each edition, Playboy would send over a big magnetic tape reel containing all the latest data for printing (both our company and theirs were in Chicago at the time), and our software would read through it, compose the pages, and print the proof sheets on phototypesetting paper. We would then box up the proofs and summon a messenger to take them back to Playboy.

(That last step was always fun, because the messengers always gave deliveries to Playboy top priority, and would generally show up at our door within minutes of being called. While the Library Index had no photos, apparently the delivery area at Playboy did, with the monthly gatefold pinups all neatly posted on the walls. That was forty years ago now, and I don't know how well that same decorating scheme in a business office would work out today.)
