I don’t understand to what point corporate believes casual sellers and those trying to turn a small profit are willing to give away any more money. These schemes aren’t well thought out. Instead of being a venue where people want to shop due to value and finding items no longer found in retail, it’s turned into one of the more expensive, less reliable options in e-commerce.

The priority campaign or promoted advance is not geared towards 99 percent of us. 

 

It is for experts selling high priced items that they have large quantity of with large margins in which every click is indeed valuable due to the combination of price of the item and conversion rate of the item. 

 

The reason the item has to be quantity item is that is the only way you are going to know your conversion rate on it, as it takes a huge number of sales of the same unchanged listing for you to have an accurate conversion rate on the item.

 

If you have a $200 margin on your item and it has a 5 percent conversion rate then you could pay up to $4 per click and still sell the item with a $100 margin.  

 

It isn't really for anyone who would be reading this message board.

Christ I didn't understand this Priority Ad campaign and it cost me dearly. It makes me angry that Ebay would let me dig myself in such a hole. Its turned off now but the damage has already been done. And the best part...IT RESULTED IN ZERO SALES  all the time it was running, But Ebay made a fortune!

My sales have ground to almost a halt when this campaign went in. I need to sell what I can to make ends meet. Its very sad.

My sales have ground to an almost halt since this campaign went into effect. Its so wrong. Its not like I had so many sales I couldnt keep up before but went from maybe 20 items a week to 3-4? and still have to pay for the general campaign for those? Its horrible. I'm giving it another month but its already not worth my time to list anything at this rate. I'm spending way more time listing, lowering the price, etc. than selling. I've been with ebay from the beginning. Its very sad.

No.  Not scary at all to me.  Because throwing money into a trash can is not something I would consider doing.

No, I am not using them. I am not independently wealth enough to share it with eBay at this point in my life. If I will the lottery, this may change.

@argenthaus  I can't do that, but I'll just say this: When Priority Campaign was first announced (back then it was called Promoted Listing Advanced) I studied it and concluded that it was designed primarily for sellers of multiple quantity listings. I pressed ebay on this, and they admitted that it was not really intended for sellers of single quantity listings. I begged them to add a disclaimer to that effect, but they refused. 

 

They have since changed the mechanics of it, making it mush easier to use, with the seller making fewer decisions. That might be more efficient, but for the unwary single quantity seller, it simply makes it seem easy, and so why not try it? But the reason to NOT even try it remains the same: it really is not designed for that type of selling.

 

I know a few single quantity sellers who managed to use it effectively, but they appear to be a very tiny minority, and usually sell in a niche (and generally higher priced items with strong margins)

 

But let's be clear: If you are a single quantity seller (especially of long tail items) you should avoid this like the plague. By ebay's own admission, it has not been designed for your business model.  

 

I really, really wish ebay would add a disclaimer, because unfortunately, as it is, too many single quantity sellers jump in without understanding its limitations, and this can quickly become a very costly mistake.
