After I accept an offer, am I able to retract it?

Re: Possible scammer

I Don't believe so.

Offer retraction can only occur before acceptance of the other party.

Re: Possible scammer

I don’t see that you had Best Offer on your listing that is still up for sale. So the buyer made an unsolicited offer through messages? What are the circumstances? Your auction is close to ending, with no bids yet. (Which means little as most wait to bid in the last moments.) What did the buyer do to make you believe they are a possible scammer?

Re: Possible scammer

What makes you believe you are dealing with a possible scammer?

Was it their location (since you list with free local pickup)?

I have been scouring the policies for a definitive answer, but first i need some info. Generally once a seller has accepted an offer, it is considered a contractual obligation to sell the item at that price to the buyer making the offer. But since you did not have Best Offer on the listing, how was the offer made? Did the buyer request anything via text? Did it come through official eBay messages?

The question in my mind is if your acceptance constitutes a sale, even tho payment has not been made yet. The reason this is important is because if it is a retraction of your offer acceptance, that is different than cancellation of a sale, if you follow. We need to know which path to follow.

@Anonymous

The short answer is 'No'. You can cancel the order, citing 'Out of stock/Item no longer available', which costs 1 'ding'.

What makes you think they're trying to scam you?  There are ways to handle things if that's the case.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Re: Possible scammer

You are not giving this community board enough information about this so called scammer.   Nothing shows that you accepted an offer.  Did he just email you and ask if you would accept a lower price and you emailed back accepting his price?  If that is the case then that is not an offer or your acceptance to the offer.   People on this board can help if you give more information.

Re: Possible scammer

From the other side, if I was the legit buyer, and you retracted your acceptance of my offer, it would be you looking poorly.

Your reasoning needs to be sound.

...If you suspect an issue and haven't accepted an offer, then the prerogative is yours. But if you have accepted the offer, then in that case, you have obligated yourself, is basically what I'm trying to convey.

Re: Possible scammer

It looks like you ended your only listing.

I am hoping that's because you decided not to sell and not because you got caught up in some kind of fake payment scam or something.

If you have any questions come back and ask.
