OMG,, this is beyond belief.. trying to list,, there are no specifics.. !

I don't know how much more i can take.. I went to list some tops today,,,

started fresh,, created a new listing.

there are no predefined item specifics with drop downs..!!!!

only suggested specifics..( see pic)when i accept them,, it creates basically custom  defined specifics,.,. which we all know are not findable or searchable..omg,,there is no brand drop down, no size drop down,,nothing!

Trinton@ebay   who is freaking running this site>?? how can specifics and listing work flows change from day to day... omg.. it's just the height of incompetence..

@Anonymous

I know you gave me an email to send info to. however.. this is beyond just sending an email.. this is ridiculous.

how can we knowledgeable sellers get the person who makes actual decisions in the backend programming department to contact us and work specifically on these problems..    there is no way to "fix" what is going on.. every message to the programming department has the listing work flow more screwed up...

all of this OF COURSE.. affects search results and buyer satisfaction..or rather continues the exodus of viable buyers .  buyers will not tolerate having to figure the "new" correct way to search for items they are looking for.. there are too many other options out there.. buyers don't want the hassel..... especially when predictable, reliable. familar  search functions on other retail web sites do not have these constant problems!

After calling last night and spending too much time on the phone with one of your customer service reps and showing him all the different ways I can not list due to the Item Specifics not populating.....here is the STUPID email I got from them:

We were able to do more investigation where the way you were doing it ( Seller similar ) in was wrong and can produce error or glitches which should not be happening, we would like to inform that there will be this chances that it will an incomplete information on a listing specially if it was not created in the same category and item itself.

Please do refrain on creating or selling the similar item the way you use it because it can produce errors that was not intended due the system was not designed the way you create your listings. We do apologize for this inconvenience.

If you have any questions or concerns, we'll be happy to help you. To contact us:
1. Click "Help & Contact" at the top of most eBay pages.
2. Click the "Contact eBay" tab. You may be asked to sign in.
3. Select the topic that best describes your issue, and we'll show you how to contact us.

First of all, I have no idea what he is trying to say, second, sell similar has NOTHING to do with Item Specifics not populating, "due the system was not designed the way you create your listings"?  Ah, I create my listings like everyone else does and I'm told the system is not designed to create my listings "that way"?  This was SO unhelpful and the issue is still out there - still can't list!  I've tried Sell Similar, Relist, brand new listing, listing from a template, listing from a draft - NOTHING!  And this is exactly why some of us do not call customer service! GRRRRRRRRRRR

Good grief with bells on.

Not only is that incorrect, illogical, unhelpful gibberish but clearly was written by someone who is not fluent in English.  How are these people hired?

trinton,, i know you must be as frustrated as we are.. you have gone out of your way to help on issues that we couldn't get resolved.

obviously. giving us an email to send the info to.. is basically repeating what someone told you is the current way to handle this..

I'm ASKING FOR AN ESCALATION, NOT TO YOU, NOT TO WHOEVER GAVE YOU THAT INSTRUCTION..SELLERS NEED TO BE ABLE TO RUN THEIR BUSINESS.. LISTING IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT SELLERS CAN CONTROL..  THE backend programming is hopelessly messed up..

what i'd like to know is.. Is there a way for ebay to undo the latest changes.. certainly they wouldn't just do a changeover without having a reference point incase things went wrong. ( like now).

i know it's not simple. there are changes built on top of changes built on top of changes.. however.. whatever they did within the last month with item specifics.. and then in the last couple days, removing all options for item specifics is crippling sellers. .

Can you please send me a private message with a managers name and phone number.. I have spent hours working with cs reps in the past on various issues..   email is not getting the point across.. .. can you please send me the contact name and phone number to someone who gets the emails at the address you gave me to report the problems. thank you

Hi @dogsrus3, using Sell Similar could absolutely be related to the problems you are running into with Item Specifics - when you use Sell Similar, you are utilizing the data the seller input into their listing. If this data does not match up with what you would like to have in your listing, especially if you have changed the category (and thus the item specifics have changed) it is likely you will run into problems. Additionally, listing data can become corrupt when a listing been relisted or created from the Sell Similar option repeatedly (a relist of a relist of a relist from a sell similar of a relist, etc.). The first step of troubleshooting a listing issue I can recommend is to create a new listing - if you are still running into problems then, we can investigate further.

While you and other sellers may use the Sell Similar option regularly to create your listings, this does not mean the feature was designed to be used in that way indefinitely. Though I understand that this new information may not have been what you were hoping to hear, it does sound like you were given accurate and creating a listing from scratch is the best next step.

Hi @lasantino, if I were to pass this along on your behalf, I would be sending it to sdsupport@eBay.com. While the Community Team does regularly work with policy and tool owners to address concerns that do not provide their contact information publicly, this team does and as a result, would need to be contacted by members of our Community. There is not a phone number I could provide to you, just the email I've given before. Contacting this email address not only ensures you receive an update from our teams once a review has been completed, it also allows them to touch base if they need more information from you. This is in addition to the fact that you are the expert on the steps you took when you ran into this problem and can provide the most accurate account of what is going on and what you would like to see changed.

Pretty sure an "improvement" to something is what caused this problem to suddenly appear. That's what's wrong with ebay now, there are so many improvements on top of improvements that the system is stuffed full and can barely take any more "improvements".

Hi @hioctane62, I 100% understand how frustrating it can be for changes to have unintended consequences that impact your business; running a business is a hard job and unexpected issues certainly don't help. As much as I wish I could flip a switch and eliminate all these problems for our sellers, the reality is that we can't always anticipate every possible challenge that may arise from the changes we implement. I know that it can seem like we are constantly changing things and this is constantly causing problems - I assure you, we take steps to test out changes before implementing them and work hard to address any problems that come up. But we can't fix something unless we are able to investigate it fully and for the details shared here, I ask that you please email sdsupport@eBay.com. Our catalog team's scope of responsibilities is not limited to the products in our catalog, but also extends to the item specifics that are so valuable for search on and off of eBay. We can't be experts on every product sold on eBay so rely on our sellers knowledge to build the data we utilize for our listings - if many sellers have used the incorrect brand name (quartz for the watch example provided previously) and buyers are commonly using this filter to search for items, we will include this as a recommended choice. This doesn't mean we can't review the information and make changes, it is just an explination for why you may sometimes find odd choices, misspellings, or multiple options that are essentially the same (closed toe, closed-toe, or close toe for high heels, for example).

Emailing sdsupport@eBay.com directly ensures you receive an update after we review and allows our teams to contact you directly if they have additional questions. I'm happy to followup if the desired changes aren't made, as always.

Re: OMG,, this is beyond belief.. trying to list,, there are no specifics.. !

@Anonymous. Nope.  Creating a new listing in the dress category doesn't populate the item specifics.  If I  use my template to create a listing for say shoes, it works.  Using that same template to create a listing for a dress, doesn't work.  Relisting a vest works, relishing a dress, nope.  If I create a whole new listing....dress nope.  Pants yes.  Has to do with the category as we've all outined in this thread.  I tried even trying modify a brand new listing to change it from pants to a dress just to test it.  Nope.  I've tried 5 different ways to list a dress including starti,g a brand new listing.  Not working.  I'm working with tech but it has nothing to do with sell similar

I hope some of us request changes of  sdsupport and post the results.   I would like to see if this works any better than trying to correct the catalog......

Hi @dogsrus3, can you provide some screenshots of what you are seeing (including the title, category, and item specifics sections)? I've tried testing this out myself and I am seeing the item specifics without an issue. Also let me know what browser you are using so I can test it out in the same environment.

Re: OMG,, this is beyond belief.. trying to list,, there are no specifics.. !

I am out for the rest of the night.  I provided screenshots to tech and they are working on it - maybe they have it fixed?  I have tried it in firefox, chrome and IE from yesterday afternoon until a few hours ago.  I walked customer service and tech through every single process to create a new listing and it wasn't working for them.  They are on it.  Thanks - Carmen

Hi @lasantino, I apologize, I may have misunderstood or mixed up this discussion with another discussion regarding item specifics that is happening at the same time with a number of the same Community members; I've looked at the draft you've shared photos of and this is what I currently see:

item_specifics.PNG

I think that what you shared previously was a temporary issue, as I'm not able to recreate it at this time from the testing I've been trying out. If you have feedback or concerns with the options being presented, you can email those to sdsupport@eBay.com, but if the only issue has since resolved itself, then I think we may be good to go from here. Please correct me if I am wrong or missing anything!

Informed sellers would never put the word 'quartz' as a brand.  You umpteen million junk watch dropshippers from China whom eBay seems to cater to might however.

Agreed, I don't have time to wait while eBay forms some adhoc committee to review the changes.  My time is money.  The previous system worked well.   Why change it?
