Now *I* got hit with a selling restriction!!!

Just got this in messages just a bit:

Hello firesteel_surplus,

You have an outstanding amount owed for eBay fees. Because you owe eBay, you won't be able to list new items on eBay. To resolve this issue and continue selling, you need to pay the amount you owe immediately.

Please log into your eBay account to make a one-time payment and bring your account up-to-date.

Also, keep in mind that if you don't pay this outstanding amount owed, your account may be subject to account suspension.

If you've already paid your eBay fees, please disregard this message.
Thanks,
eBay

My "outstanding fees" that I'm in the red over? Just under $38. I'm usually running sales of around $1000(ish) a month or so. Really eBay?

You just need to trust me when I say I think eBay might be doing me a favor restricting my account. Might take care of some headaches and anxieties.

But just for giggles...where do I go to pay this since eBay won't let us keep money in our account just for these shortages.

First time this has happened.

Is it too early to say my goodbyes to you?

LOL

I'll be stuck in a doc appointment all morning tomorrow so I won't be around much but I'll try to post something to my account when I get back and see if the restrictions are lifted.

My pessimism says it will take a billing cycle.

@dhbookds  Transitional period starts mid-March, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least that prep programming is causing this.  This site is so huge that I don't see them flipping a switch on this.

But it's just a guess/opinion on my part.

I dang near hit the Accept as Solution on that one!

I do hope everyone appreciates that I did not start my rant with "I've been a valued member of ebay for 25 YEARS and I have 2668 POSITIVE FEEDBACK and MY ACCOUNT IS RESTRICTED and I want to start a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!!!!

The various capitalizations and exclamation points of course help gets the point across much better.

I really thought of doing that.

I really did.

And no random pearl-clutching political rant or opening statement that you will not be monitoring this thread so ONLY those who can directly answer your question should post (!!!!!!!).

It was refreshing.

I'll be on the phone with eBay's CS "Help Desk?"

Forever if you phone the underpaid undertrained subcontractors working out of their kitchens in Utah.

Use the eBay accounts on FaceBook or Twitter or the "Chat" (which is written not spoken) in Help &Contact.

That is where the actual trained eBay employees are hidden these days.

And you get a transcript with any of those, so you can check that what you think you were told is what you were actually told,

Ah ha, you must have forgotten to say, 'Pretty Please - with a big stack of $100.00 bills on top".  😁

How can you have fees, they take them when your item sells?

That's what I thought too.  They just announced switching sellers from the 15th to the end of the month, so I wonder if those getting these bills were on the 15th due cycle.

@gail5176

My Store subscriptions come up once a month.
If there isn't enough in MP at that moment (for example in January my MP balance was transferred on Tuesday the 14th and my subscriptions came due on Wednesday the 15th) eBay/MP will go to the attached bank account.

Which is also why the bank account must support checking.

I'm not sure how it happens. My guess is the UPS shipping labels. I think they lock in the estimate and then once UPS gets the package and gets it actually weighed and scanned and there is a price difference, then that price gets posted to the account.

But I could be totally in left field with that train of thought.

I just know every once in awhile, ebay shows me in the red.

So I woke up to this message this morning from our friends at ebay:

Hello firesteel_surplus,

Thanks for your recent payment. Your eBay selling privileges have been reinstated and you can now list new items on eBay, provided there are no other issues or restrictions on your account.

We appreciate your attention to this matter.
Thanks,
eBay

Go figure. The system worked.

Thanks all that input your thoughts and various remarks into this.

I figured it would, it's just so odd, like there is no coordination between various components of their billing system.

One credit card on file was expired. But they still had my debit card and checking account on file and they had up to date info.

I guess I thought that's what those were for...back up in case a primary failed?

In any case, I got my credit card updated and I got my -$35.77 PAID IN FULL. I'm guessing the issue was the credit card getting declined somewhere in the pipeline and caused a bottleneck in my account.

I agree that this isn't adding up. eBay should have gone to one of your backup payment methods.

eBay is now suspending accounts because their credit card is expired- even though they have other backup payment methods on file? The logical course of action would be to charge the backup then send the seller a message letting them know their primary choice needs to be updated. I don't understand issuing an account restriction over this.

WAG -- when techbros Elon Musk and Peter Theil developed Paypal, there were gaps in security. Not huge ones, but one was that it is relatively easy for an abandoned account to be hijacked.  With the introduction of MP,  eBay had the opportunity to close some of those gaps.  They seem to be doing it with their own accounts too, so long time but basically unused accounts are also harder to reinvigorate for selling.

But just a guess.
