Not able to change the price for a Buy It Now Item

Hi, I want to change/lower the price for a Buy It Now Item and Revise will not let me change anything.

Is it because there are 4 people Watching the Item ?

Re: Not able to change the price for a Buy It Now Item

Earlier today I pulled up one of my items that had an active outstanding offer and most everything was locked except the price.  I was able to revise the price lower with no problem.

@fern*wood

you are right! I just tried some items I know I just sent out this morning; and it would NOT let me

a.) change a picture

b.) change the title

c.) change the shipping amount

but, I could change the 'price' if I didn't do it in the 'edit' but just 'click the price in active listings'.

This is a glitch- shouldn't allow it. Should NEVER have allowed it.

How exactly is it a "glitch" when eBay lets you change the BIN price on an item that has an outstanding offer?  What possible reason should this "not be allowed?"

I guess it would depend on if the NEW price is now shown to the 'would be buyer getting an offer'.

If I send bulk offers, on Monday, out for flat 10% off, and a buyer watched an item 2 weeks ago when it was $100, then I change it to $150 on Tuesday (after sending out offer)- when the buyer clicks, say Wednesday (offers are now good for 4 days, so until Friday)....

what does buyer see?

10% off $100 or

10% off $150?

The buyer sees the new BIN price, and your original offer stands, whether it was a flat amount off or a percentage off.  If it was a percentage off, it's still the same percentage off the original BIN price when the offer was sent.

This is correct.  I just checked my listing that I revised after reading this thread.  My offer shows as the same amount and my BIN is now less.  So, if anything, my potential buyer will think I'm bad at math since I offered a percentage off.

I was pretty sure hartungcards was correct even before I tested this, because I vaguely remember doing it on a listing earlier.  Normally, I would have no reason to change my BIN after sending offers, but I had a buyer willing to pay my offer price but his offer had expired and I couldn't send him another.  So I adjusted my price and he bought.  The offers I had sent to others didn't matter.

I ran into this before, it turned out to be because I had sent our offers to my watchers. I was stuck until either one of them accepted the offer or the time for them to respond ran out. I can't remember exactly but I think it was 48 hours they had to respond.  It was frustrating at the time but ultimately, I was able to reduce the price.

@hartungcards So if you have an item for $100 and send an offer for 10% off, 2 days later 'lower' the price to $80; The offer shows the buyer can buy for $90- so what does the buyer see?

If price is lower, wouldn't buyer think 'what the heck is this seller doing?'

I don't think pricing should be allowed to be touched during an 'offer' period (which is short anyway)

Re: Not able to change the price for a Buy It Now Item

The buyer sees that you're now selling it for $80.00, and if they have any sense at all, they'll decline your offer of $90.00.  And maybe think, "well, that's an even better deal," and buy it from you for $10.00 less than your original offer.

I think we should be able to ask for whatever price we want to move something for, at any time, and I don't think any buyers have a problem with prices dropping.

You could have lowered or raised the price at any time when the offers were active.  You just can't change anything else while the offers are active.

and I don't think they should when a 'sale' 'offer' is sent; When you have a 'Sale Event' you cannot change the price of just 'some' of the items until the sale is over or you end the event, which means you have to end the entire event for all items to 'just change the price of 2 items'.

When I was in retail in Cali in the 90's/2000's (we got price changes every Tuesday) you would not get any price changes for the items that were in the Newspaper Ad that came out Sunday (and was good unitl the next Sunday).

I think even a couple chain stores were slapped by Weights/Measures for doing just that.

Re: Not able to change the price for a Buy It Now Item

I know it's 8 months later that I'm writing this, but this is the thread I found when I recently discovered I could not reduce a BIN price while active offers I had sent out were pending.  Hartung you are absolutely right - the one thing you always could change in a BIN listing with active offers was the price.  For me personally, if I'm trying to move something and have open offers that have been pending for a couple days I sometimes will reduce the BIN price to somewhere between the original price and the offer price (but never below the offer price which makes no sense to me).  I probably did it more after they increased the offer period to 4 days, which can seem interminable.

If they did prohibit changing the BIN price with open offers pending I don't see any specific rule saying so.  It's also weird that when you go to revise the listing there is no "lock" sign in the price section and you are able to physically change the price and click "revise", only to receive a red box saying "portions of this listing can't be revised if the item has . . . active Best Offers."
