No Sales, There is something going on here No Sales, No Sales, NoSales

Hey Folks;

My sales are down by 50%. There is something going on here on ebay. Just read the current Q3 report release and sales off ebay has dropped 10%, Active Buyers Declined by 5% ,  GMV up 9%.  Ebay is making money off the backs of sellers with higher fees, 90% growth off Managed Payment systems, offside ads with no sales.

Ebay is charging enormous fees with no sales off Sellers. This is bad news for sellers here.  This will result in sellers leaving and diversifying more to other sites, social media sites, their own SEO sites to make a living.

What is ebay going to do to help sellers?

If you keep that up you will have 30 sales month. That's better than others on here. You should be happy my friend from the great white north.

Yep it's everything from the eBay pay to play scams which cheat both buyers and sellers. Also failed Google ads ultimately paid for by the sellers. Yes you would be shocked at what's really going on..

Source, please? (Honest question).  I keep hearing this.  I pay mostly the same rates on shipping apps as I do here, which is why I ask.

Not counting discounts, but the way they factor weight for return labels is obviously cheating sellers to begin with. We have to use the RMA feature to stop eBay from sending labels as much as possible as they gladly overestimate and make you pay double the price.

This isn't any evidence that would be provided from a true source. But worst case scenario, this does make it more likely that they get *something* out of the deal, as why else would they not use appropriate boxes/prices? And best case scenario, they overlooked the issue for years and simply don't care about taking extra money about sellers pockets.

OK, the last time I had a SNAD, the label cost was the same as the label I used to send the item to begin with - it was just the standard 'return' style label.  This is just USPS (not fed-ex, UPS, etc.).

I can see eBay skimming a bit for administrative costs, but I suspect all shipping apps do that.

ETA: My items are pretty bog standard type first class or priority.

20-25 a week should be an average.  So, no, 30 a month does not sound great at all.  It would put me on the streets...........and I don't mean selling my body.  LOL   2 sales in the last 3 days for $25.  Pathetic!  If eBay remains to be considered one of the "top places to sell', A LOT of people will be in trouble financially.

Still really slow on here, which makes no sense.

B&M stores here have minimal on shelves - 4 stores and no canned pumpkin and most items are sold out already in many areas of the store as we think about Santa.....TJ Maxx almost looks like it is going out of business - there is not much merchandise to even choose from.

So why is it still slow on here?

Example: I worked over 20 years for a very large tire wholesaler (ATD) which also owns Tire Buyer. I have friends at high levels in this company. Yes shipping cost is 60-70% less at ATD vs. eBay and BTW eBay is 5 times larger than ATD. We checked a dimensional weighted tire from zip 98360 to 23464 using UPS and FedEx.

Actually with the increased manipulation of search by eBay - I don't think price matters all that much any more.  It's to eBay's advantage if a higher priced item is the one that sells.   Besides, not all watchers are looking to buy.

I think people are concerned with the state of affairs in the country with shortages that are here and what’s to come.

While inflation may be a concern at the gas station and grocery store and may be affecting online sales - I don't think shortages are having a negative impact on online sales.   Increased shipping costs are likely having more of an impact.

Today is the 5 week anniversary of my last sale on this account - the only one of four that has been impacted by the fall category and item specifics changes.  In October I have spent more time making corrections to listings on this account because of items being shifted to the wrong categories and item specifics disappearing than I have creating new listing items on all four accounts combined.   And I don't believe the vintage and collectibles market is the problem as my sports related collectibles are doing OK - categories not impacted by the fall changes.

However, all my accounts have seen a significant decrease in traffic in October (50% or more) - a month typically the most active in my 21 years of experience here.    I certainly don't think that is all due to a 5% decrease in active buyers.

Maybe the watchers are sellers who have similar items. This has become quite prevelant lately and I can understand, BUT I remember when watchers meant potential buyers most of the time. I sold a painting a couple of years ago and had around 36 watchers before the auction ended. I made a little money on the sale, cool, but dang, with 36 watchers, one would think that it'd sell for more. Since the watch button is similar to like buttons, I guess folk treat eBay now like social media. Still, if one has that many watchers, one would think sales would be made more frequently.

Has to be the changes to the algorithm since they debuted their pay for clicks The drop happened so quick.  If it was inflation/shipping increases/VAT/sales tax being added , the slowdown would have been gradual not out of the blue . Ebay squeezing every drop of blood out of the stone.  Last time I remember drops like this was when they broke out  Cassini search engine and everything went to hell  Sales continue to fall, not feeling optimistic short term

It is many things/changes/factors at once.  The timing is really hurting sales for many of us.
