I'm an intern for a company and they put me on a project to sell obsolete materials here on eBay. Most of these items I am listing at very competitive prices, but I feel like people don't buy because my eBay account is newer and not trustworthy. How can I increase traffic and make some more sales.

Buy some decorative fireplace ornaments!
On another note, I would add the words fireplace or stove as a keyword in every title.

" If so, ask them to please leave feedback on eBay. When I ship items, I always include a message in the package asking buyers to leave feedback if they are happy with their purchase or to contact me if they have any concerns."
Usually, both are very bad ideas. All it takes is for one cranky buyer to neg you for asking for feedback. Its voluntary, and never a good idea to push for it.And asking a buyer if they are happy with their purchase is just asking for trouble, IMHO.

I think in this case it's OK if the OP says something like "We are new sellers and working hard to get established here. If you are satisfied with your purchase and can leave feedback, we would appreciate it." Or something like that. I had a seller on Amazon request that of me - they had a good product and were having a tough time getting a toehold because so few people leave FB - I was happy to oblige. Usually I ignore feedback begging - mostly because I just forget, but I wouldn't forget someone trying to get a start in business.
OP - if your company needs anything that eBay might have, purchase it here on their account and leave FB on receipt - that will help get the feedback ball rolling.

I'm new too and had to sell some items at a break even price just to get some feedback.
Also, like other people said. That $15 shipping fee is odd. "Free shipping" looks much more attractive

Thats because you are a nice person. Not everybody is.

Only you left out the most important part of the request: "We are new sellers and working hard to get established here." That's the lede - without that it's just panhandling.

You could also spend $30 of company money to buy 30 99 cent shipped trinkets from China to pass out at the office, if you select sellers who automatically leave feedback then you will instantly have 30 feedback and people will stop seeing you as a new seller even though you are.
