New or Open Box?

IMG_2876.jpeg

If I take this holster out of the package, could I sell this as "New"? It's currently listed as "Open Box" but I'm contemplating selling it without the box to save on shipping. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Yes.

New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details.

Re: New or Open Box?

Open box is usually referred to as 'displays', like in a store and is an item that 'does something' ie. plugs in, TV screen, laptop, phone etc. A 'case' wouldn't usually be an 'open box' if it is unused and in it's box, it's NEW.

If it's NEW, I would list as new and would not worry about 'shipping cost' as 'new' should have the box. BUT....you need to be lower than the store, shipped and also note: Otter hires a company to stop people from selling their products, so you may get 'caught' and your item removed before it sells. Use a buy it now and be a good price to make it worth while.

Re: New or Open Box?

"New" is how it comes when you buy it from the store.   If you sell/ship it without the package, that's not new.

@almostheaven304

How can it be "never been removed" AND not have the packaging?

For the item you are selling removing the box is unlikely to make any difference in the shipping cost.

Re: New or Open Box?

@almostheaven304  The answer is neither. Otterbox is on eBay's VERO list. They will file a complaint and eBay will remove your listing.

You need to find another way to sell it. If you are going to list it, list it as used/pre-owned. Even then, your listing is subject to removal. Otterbox does not like their stuff being sold without authorization, even your own property.

Otterbox does not like counterfeits of their stuff being sold. It's not because of who is selling them or on what platform.

Fake Otterbox stuff is rampant.

@slippinjimmy so referring back to my post- they will TAKE IT DOWN as 'FAKE' even if it's not because that is how they roll.

So, it IS who is selling it (any Unauthorized reseller on CL, AZ, Eb etc. etc.)

Re: New or Open Box?

I haven't removed the holster from the packaging, not even for photos.

The box bumps up the postage rate from 4 oz to 8 oz. It doesn't seem like much, but as high as postage rates currently are, it could prevent a sale.

Yes, and it is definitely over who is selling them. They assume if you are not authorized, you are selling a fake. That is their approach. The OP is not an authorized seller, and their listing will be removed PDQ.

It might bump it 50 cents - the increases really start at about 10 oz.

It seems that eBay would disagree. This is what eBay calls NEW:

New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag.
